If there’s one thing Star Wars fans love, it’s variants of their favorite classic ships. Followers of the Galactic Empire can never get enough new TIE Fighters, and Clone Wars devotees love seeing how the era’s ships hint at design aspects of the Original Trilogy. The Sequel Trilogy is also there. We kid (mostly), but Poe’s X-Wing does have a sick paint job. Now, Fantasy Flight games is bringing miniature versions of ships from all three trilogies into the X-Wing tabletop game.
Fantasy Flight announced six new expansion packs for Star Wars: X-Wing, mostly consisting of single ships. All are now available to pre-order, with release slated for the fourth quarter of 2020. They’ll make excellent stocking stuffers for Christmas, and who knows, we might even be able to actually use them at local events in 2021!
Straight from Solo comes the TIE/rb. This beefy TIE comes with heavy laser cannons, earning it the nickname “Brute.”
The Heralds of Hope Squadron pack is this series’ only collection of multiple ships. Two X-Wings and one A-Wing, complete with Rise of Skywalker colors, take flight under Poe Dameron’s command.
From here it’s all Prequel content, starting with something we don’t often see in the heat of battle. The Eta-2 Actis Expansion Pack introduces the Jedi fighter seen more prominently towards the end of the Clone Wars. This version also comes with a hyperspace ring. This is curious as we typically see the ship detach from its ring before a dogfight starts. However, Fantasy Flight says that the ring provides “even greater control over the positioning of their ship in the early stages of a battle.”
Next is the V-Wing, a fast fighter piloted by the Clone army. In fact, this particular unit seems to be helmed by Odd Ball of Clone Wars cartoon fame.
The Tri-Fighter is the Separatist Alliance’s answer to the V-Wing. The speed and agility these fighters can achieve is enough to rival even Jedi reflexes.
Finally, they saved a unique ship for last. Jango Fett’s version of the infamous Slave I packs a delightful selection of weapons in the form of 13 upgrade cards.
With this much choice, you’ll have the freedom to take your foe in alive… or not.
