In Fate/Grand Order you are tasked with finding and collecting servants to assist you as you try to stop the forces of evil from destroying humanity. During your journey through time you’ll come across many individuals with various powers who can provide you with assistance in this fun strategic game.

During certain special events you have the opportunity to use Ishtar, an Archer class warrior to fight on your side. As you enhance her power you’ll unlock aspects of her story that many players probably aren’t aware of.

10 Goddess Of Good Harvests & Beauty

Ishtar is widely known as the Goddess of abundant harvests and beauty. As such she is seen favorably by mortals and even the gods hold her in great esteem.

In fact she’s so favored that it’s been known for other gods to pamper and spoil her. This glowing favoritism by mortals and gods isn’t entirely unwarranted as she can grant great prosperity to mankind and usher in era of peace, but it could also be to appease her darker side.

9 Also Goddess of War

It turns out that not only is Ishtar the Goddess of good harvest and beauty, she’s also the Goddess of war. The reason for her having these separate roles is unclear, though it may have something to do with Ishtar’s extreme personality that’s as likely to be kind as it is cruel.

Having the power to both benefit and destroy mankind gives her a unique status among the gods and could explain why both divine beings and mortals are quick to lavish her with praise and adoration. As those who don’t give her the respect and love she feels she deserves quickly face her wrath.

8 Destroyed Uru With A Bull

A great example of this was when she showed interest in Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes and he rejected her advances. She was so enraged by this rejection that she sent the Bull of Heavens, a divine beast of incredible power, to destroy the city of Uruk.

It’s significant that this is the only known instance of someone rejecting the advances of Ishtar which suggests she’s either so beautiful and charming that few would want to, or that her reputation for cruelty and ferocity is so well known that it would require someone incredibly brave or foolish to risk her wrath.

7 Promiscuous

No doubt these two facts are a major contribution to her legendary promiscuity. Isthar is known to take lovers both mortal and divine, showing no preference between the two.

The reason for this behavior is unclear, whether it’s to seek the acceptance and admiration of others, to demonstrate her power, or out of divine boredom. In any case she’s very successful in courting others given her beauty and notorious rage.

6 Isn’t Actually Her

The Ishtar seen in Fate/Grand Order isn’t actually her. She’s in fact inhabiting a human host and has full control over the body, the whereabouts of the original body’s owner is unknown though it could be that she’s taken a back seat and is a mere observer.

Ishtar has stated that while she’s “more glamorous” in real-life she’s content with the body she’s possessing. It could be that this body is one that closely resembles her real form or that the level of beauty is close enough to her own that the details of her appearance doesn’t matter.

5 Heavenly Boat Maanna

Ishtar’s weapon of choice is the Heavenly Boat Maanna. It’s an airship that was originally constructed to travel among the stars, but as Ishtar is no longer in her divine form she can’t use it for this purpose and instead uses it for limited travel and as a powerful weapon.

It turns out the airship is capable of being fired like a large bow, pummeling targets with a massive bolt of energy. A terrifying thought is how much more powerful this bow must have been in Ishtar’s hands when she was in her divine form, given how devastating it is in her mortal form.

4 Sees Humans As Toys

Ishtar is so powerful that she views humans as toys or playthings for her amusement. Unlike other gods that prefer to observe humanity rather than manipulate or interfere with their actions, she takes in active role in either benefiting or harming them.

Fortunately for mankind Ishtar takes good care of her toys and only destroys them when they anger her. But given her severe mood swings and that it doesn’t take much to trigger them, being a human she’s taken an interest in is a terrifying position to be in.

3 Her Host Keeps Her Cruelty In Check

Having Ishtar in a limited mortal form is a major saving grace for humanity. While she has full control over the host body the host has a limited influence on her personality. This human was a kind and caring soul which is curbing the worst of Ishtar’s anger and cruelty.

It’s unknown if the host will be able to keep this rage in check forever or if Ishtar recognizes her powers are limited and is being more cautious. In either case her anger is tempered and she’s much more reasonable to interact with.

2 Destroyed A Mountain

Perhaps Ishtar’s greatest display of her power and cruelty was the destruction of Mt. Ebih. For whatever reason she forced herself inside of the mountain and promptly grew stronger and more divine with each step she took inward.

After a time, she drew her spear and jabbed it into the heart of the mountain causing the entire range to collapse on itself and become utterly destroyed.

1 Both Mortals And Gods Fear Her

With her violent temper, incredible power, and for the destruction of Mt. Ebih both humanity and the gods are afraid of her. Interacting with Ishtar is supposed to be a terrifying affair as beings both mortal and divine are careful not to set her off.

So perhaps she’s not the most loved because of the harvests she blesses or the abundance she can show upon humans, it’s much more likely that everyone is afraid of her and doesn’t dare to show anything other than respect and admiration for this hostile goddess.
