The Necrohol of Nabudis in Final Fantasy 12 is no easy feat for players, especially those at lower levels. Even upon entry, one of the party members will give an apt warning not to enter. For those that need a review, the Necrohol is the ruins of the great city, Nabudis where Rasler was killed and Basch was framed for murdering the King of Dalmasca.
There is a lot to do in these haunted hallways of old Nabudis and a lot to collect. It’s a big place that is not necessary to run through for the story but does provide rare treasures, a hidden merchant and much more. Here are some things you might not have known about the Necrohol of Nabudis.
10 Important To The Storyline, But Not To The Games Progression
There is a lot of the story to keep track of in Final Fantasy 12 and a lot of history. At the beginning of the game, the player is given a long-winded lesson that some, or most, might have snoozed through. If this was the case, then those players might not understand the importance of the Necrohol and since it’s not really apart of the storyline progression it can go ignored for some time.
Nabudis is the capital of Nabradia where Rasler was from. Remember the first cutscene? Basche being blamed for the murder of the king? Van losing his brother? Yeah, Nabudis is where everting begins. After being destroyed by the Midlight Shard, the city became a hallow for beasts, the dead, and the Mist– and a bunch of really cool, high-level items and magicks.
9 Secret Baknamy Merchant
No secret or obscure dungeon is worth the effort unless a prize is involved. For the Necrohol, that includes a hidden merchant who offers plenty of useful items. In Zodiac Age, he is found in the northern parts of the Cloister of the Highborn. Depending on what version you have, the original or Zodiac age, the merchant will be in different areas and sell different items. Take note for those playing Zodiac age, this is where Esunaga can be found but only after defeating Hydro.
For the original version, Scathe will appear in his shop after Bahamut appears. He is well hidden, however. Within the Cloister of the Highborn, he only appears if the player can find him in a corner, invisible except for three floating question marks. After interacting with these question marks, the merchant will walk out, seemingly out of thin air.
8 Need To Defeat King Bomb In Salika Wood To Enter
Now, a player can’t just go waltzing into the Necrohol. Of course, a boss needs to be taken down to get into this hidden dungeon and that boss would be the King Bomb of Salika Wood. It’s probably a good idea to level up for this boss and not go head-to-head when first entering Salika Wood.
After all, this boss isn’t necessary for story progression, just getting into the Necrohol. Be sure to bring as much fire immune accessories and armors as possible and keep handkerchiefs and remedies ready in hand. Once the King Bomb is defeated, it’s time to head into the haunted ruins.
7 Entry Warning Isn’t Just Given By Basch
Depending on when you’re ready to enter the Necrohol a different character will offer a fair warning before proceeding. Most of the time it’s Basch who gives the stoic warning and Fran backs him up by trying to convince Ashe its not a good idea to enter, not even for revenge’s sake.
If players are under-leveled, it is a good idea to head the warnings regardless of who is giving it. Generally, if game characters know better, players should listen, at least until high levels are reached and warnings no longer carry the same weight.
6 Can Enter Through Immobilize Glitch
If a quick run-in-run-out is what players want, then the immobilize glitch something to consider. Basically, this allows for certain characters to get somewhere specific without having to fight enemies then switch to the other character to make a quick escape. It sounds tedious and in some ways, it can be.
A nifty trick this glitch does is when the lead is switched to the immobilized character then back to the free character, all enemies in range disappear. So, if a quick and safe run-through of the Necrohol is desired for grabbing those high-level equipment weapons and magicks, then implementing this glitch is a must.
5 Secret Esper Chaos
This secret boss cannot be accessed unless the player has completed the three medallion side quest. These are the Blackened Fragment, Dull Fragment, and Grimy Fragment. Each fragment is acquired differently and it does take some time but so worth it.
Take note that this boss is no cakewalk but using Gil toss does a surprising amount of damage. Really, it’s a little silly that all this time Gil toss goes unused but all a sudden this great and mighty esper just can’t handle money being thrown in his face.
4 Obtain High-Level Items
The Necrohol might look intimidating to venture, and that is surely the case, but it’s worth it. The hidden merchant has much to offer players but so do the treasure chests. Within the haunted hallways, special items and treasures can be found and most are high-level. Items such as Cura-mote, meteorite, and penetrator crossbow can be discovered by dedicated players.
Of course, items will be different depending on the version players own, but no less rewarding. Getting through the Necrohol of Nabudis is no easy feat, but treasures are abundant if time and effort are put in.
3 Original Location For Zodiac Spear
One of the main reasons the previously mentioned immobilize glitch is important is for retrieving the Zodiac Spear when the party is under-leveled. Unfortunately, in the remastered Zodiac Age, the Zodiac Spear is no longer located in the Necrohol. But, for those still playing the original version, the spear can still be found here.
The spear is a super-powered weapon that is a must-have for a high-leveled party so going the process of collecting it is worth the effort, especially for secret bosses and the more difficult hunts.
2 Obtain Bravery And Faith
Bravery and Faith are two classic magick spells in the Final Fantasy universe. They certainly come in handy and in Final Fantasy 12 Zodiac Age, they are both located in the Necrohol of Nabudis. They are companion magicks to have, Faith boosting magic attack and Bravery physical attack.
Just like having the Zodiac spear, these two magicks help players progress through difficult bosses and hunts with ease, especially with a lower-leveled party. Both Bravery and Faith are located in the Cloister of the Highborn room in the Necrohol of Nabudis.
1 Obtaining Ensanguined Shield
Another special item players can acquire in the Nerohol of Nabudis is the ensanguined shield. This intimidating shield can be obtained in several different ways but if players are already braving through the Necrohol, then it’s just one of those things to pick up along the way. One of the best shields to have equipped, the chance of finding the chest containing Ensanguined requires a lot of luck, so set aside some extra time.
It is located in the Cloister of the Highborn like many other items and has a 3% chance of spawning. That’s right, 3%. Patience and a lot of running around is a necessity for the Necrohol of Nabudis in general but especially for obtaining the Ensanguined shield.
