The Final Fantasy 14 Digital Fan Festival is only a few days away and players are hoping to get some juicy information concerning the forthcoming expansion, Endwalker. Ever since the announcement of Endwalker and the information that we did receive, fans have been theorizing about what else this next installment might include.

We will likely get some answers to these fan theories at this weekend’s Fan Festival, but some of them we probably won’t know for sure until the game’s full release this fall, especially theories concerning major plot details. Which of these theories do you hope come true?

6 Estinien might Betray the Warrior of Light

Estinien Wyrmblood seems set to take on a larger role in Endwalker, which is making alarm bells ring for players of Final Fantasy 4. Given that Endwalker clearly heavily references Final Fantasy 4, it’s hard not to believe that history might repeat itself.

Cecil, the protagonist of Final Fantasy 4, is a Dark Knight who then becomes a Paladin and who also travels to the moon during the game. However, he is betrayed by his Dragoon friend Kain during the story.

We know that Endwalker will see players travel to the moon, and we also know that Paladin is being added for Endwalker. In fact, the canon Warrior of Light that features in the trailers was previously a Dark Knight but is seen donning the Paladin garb in the Endwalker trailer.

Given the parallels between the two, many fans believe Estinien is set to betray the Warrior of Light. It wouldn’t be the first time that players have had to face down Estinien, so you have to wonder whether it would be a bit tiresome to have Estinien as a boss battle once more, but time will tell.

5 Blitzball might be added as a Minigame

Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida has already confirmed that a new minigame will be added with the release of Endwalker. Notably, he mentioned that it will be content on the same scale as the Mahjong minigame and will allow many players to participate at a time.

Final Fantasy 14 already features the most well-known minigames from the Final Fantasy series, such as Chocobo Racing and Triple Triad, but fans are hopeful that this new minigame added in Endwalker will be Blitzball, the popular game from Final Fantasy 10.

4 Lunarians Might Feature as a New Beastmen Tribe

The Arkasodara Beastmen Tribe has already been revealed for the new Endwalker content, but Yoshida also hinted at another of the tribes that will be added. He stated this tribe will be native to the moon and loudly speculated as to who they might be in a manner that made fans believe that it’s an already well-known moon race from the series.

This seems to heavily suggest the new Beastmen Tribe will be the Lunarians from Final Fantasy 4, in keeping with the idea that a lot of Endwalker content will be based on this early title. Also known as Moon Folk, the Lunarians are a technologically advanced humanoid race, with it being a Lunarian who built the Lunar Whale airship (which is also set to feature as a new mount).

3 We Might See a Lunar Cry Occur

While it is clear that Endwalker is based in Final Fantasy 4 lore, it seems that another series favorite might also get a reference or two. We know that Zodiark is trapped on the moon, in a similar way to how Adel was contained in Final Fantasy 8.

It’s also worth remembering that Final Fantasy 8 featured a Lunar Cry, the name given to the event where monsters fall from the moon to the earth. It seems likely that the idea of this, even if it goes by another name, could also appear in Endwalker. Some fans even believe that the Endwalker trailer shows the characters fighting monsters that appeared due to a Lunar Cry.

2 Necromancer Might be a Playable Job

Necromancer is not one of the most well-known job types when it comes to the Final Fantasy franchise and has only appeared in a couple of main titles, as well as a handful of spin-offs. However, fans believe that the yet-to-be-announced melee DPS role being added in Endwalker will be Necromancer, or some variant of this, like a Necro-Knight.

The theory behind this is because at the Endwalker reveal event, Yoshida was wearing a t-shirt that showed a skeleton saying “I’ll be here if you need me.” With previous expansions, Yoshida has been known to hint at new job roles with the t-shirts he wears, so this theory isn’t far-fetched.

1 One or Both of the Leveilleur Twins Might Die

It’s clear that Endwalker is basing a lot of its content on Final Fantasy 4, which fans absolutely love to see as it brings back some nostalgia and fan-favorite elements. However, it’s worth remembering that during the events of Final Fantasy 4, the twin characters Palom and Porom sacrifice themselves to save the others.

While Palom and Porom were later healed from their petrification, and so didn’t actually die, many fans believe that the Leveilleur twins might not be so lucky (as Final Fantasy 14 isn’t afraid to punch us in the hearts occasionally). The trailer for Endwalker focuses on the Leveilleur twins, in particular, showing Alisaie in a tough spot. Many fans believe this is foreshadowing their fate and believe that Alisaie is the twin most likely to die.

Alphinaud receives a new job in Endwalker, whereas Alisaie doesn’t, leading many to think that the reason why she doesn’t get an upgrade is that she won’t be sticking around. However, the previous two expansions only changed the job role of one of the twins each time, so it isn’t really out of the ordinary that Alisaie remains a Red Mage.
