Square Enix announced Wednesday morning that Final Fantasy 14’s free trial experience is being massively expanded with the game’s next update. Not only will the free trial’s level cap be raised from 35 all the way up to 60, but all of Final Fantasy 14’s Heavensward expansion story content is also being included. The patch is set to launch on August 11.
The expanded free trial arrives with Final Fantasy 14 patch 5.3 on August 11. The level cap rises from 35 to 60, which has always been Heavensward’s max level. All campaign quests up through Heavensward patch 3.56 will be unlocked, which was Heavensward’s final patch. The Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist Jobs will be unlocked, as will the Au Ra race.
The Final Fantasy 14 free trial still features serious limitations, of course. For example, free trial players can’t use Final Fantasy 14’s social marketplace, they have a cap on in-game currency, can join but can’t form parties, and can’t join Free Companies (guilds) at all. Players will still be able to experience the full story campaign through Heavensward, however, and can join into Duties/dungeons as needed.
As if that wasn’t enough, Square Enix is also making major changes to the campaign in A Realm Reborn to streamline the experience. All of the campaign’s individual quests will largely be retained, but they’ll be made simpler so as to not take hours upon hours to complete. The base game will also have flying added to it. Free trial players will soon have a much better base-game experience, as well as access to a truly outstanding expansion in Heavensward. Final Fantasy 14’s free trial is an outstanding opportunity to play a great game for no up-front cost.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now on PC, PS3, and PS4.
