When entering into an MMO, most players ask the age-old question, “So, how do I get rich?” Final Fantasy 14 is one of the best MMORPGs on the market, but getting a hold of its Gil economy can be a challenge.
In Final Fantasy 14, it is Gil that players use to buy goods from gear to furniture and weapons. Many players dream of saving up for their own in-game house, which is likely the biggest expense a player can face in the game. To get their Gil to the millions, players have a lot of options. However, some options work far better than others.
Updated March 11, 2022, by Allison Stalberg: Endwalker has been released, and players were quick to take advantage of selling new gear and items to make a lot of Gil. It goes to show that the market is always changing in Final Fantasy 14, as it is completely dependent on what players value and how many players are ahead or behind in the dungeons and story. Something that is worth is a million Gil today can be only two Gil next month; however, that does not mean there is no strategy to Gil farming. There is actually a lot of strategies involved for players that want to get rich.
18 Keep Crafting And Gathering Classes Up-To-Date With Content
This may be the most important tip of all, as it can make all the difference to be ahead of the game. Any MMO will have many players affecting the economy, so those that are the highest level with the highest leveled gear will make the most bank when new content comes up with new items to craft, gather, and sell.
In a sense, this is a simple gil farming strategy that does not require a lot of research. New things always sell for a high price with those who are the first to craft, gather, and sell it. This is especially true of gear, furniture, and the items required to make the new things.
17 Sell Popular Glamour Gear
Players in Final Fantasy 14 are always looking to really make their characters their own and stand out from the crowd. Much like real-world fashion, there are often trends in glamour gear too, especially when new items perfect for glamours are added. Those that want to make a lot of Gil should keep an eye out for updates that add new casual outfits that can be worn at any level.
These outfits often take high-level crafters, especially Weavers. It can be hard work, as ingredients can be rare drops from maps or need a high-level gatherer class. However, these kinds of gear, when still new and fresh to the game, can sell for millions.
16 Complete Weeklies/Dailies
As with most MMOs, Final Fantasy 14 offers various tasks and challenges that reset daily or weekly, and both can be a great way of earning some extra Gil. Dailies include roulettes and beastmen quests, both of which can earn Gil as rewards, or materia.
Additionally, there is a weekly challenge log that can earn players some easy Gil just by ticking off various tasks. Some challenges are very easy to complete, such as playing some mini-games, while others are earned naturally just through playing.
15 Hunt And Sell Minions
Minions are a fan-favorite element of Final Fantasy 14, with many players trying to collect as many as possible. Minions are found in a variety of ways, such as dungeons, raids, crafting, gathering, and more. There are a fair few minions that are sellable on the market board, and many players earn Gil by seeing which minions are currently worth the most and then hunting them down to sell.
With each update, players can check if a new minion has been added and if it is sellable. If it is sellable and not so easy to obtain, then it can be worth farming certain dungeons to collect the minion to sell.
14 Join Map Parties
If players get a map, it may be far better to keep rather than sell. This is especially true if the map is for high-level players. It can be a bit of a gamble, but lucky players can walk out of map dungeons with far more money than they spent on the map in the first place.
What is most recommended though, is to get maps through gathering classes or as a reward from Khloe’s journals. That way, players don’t even have to spend Gil for the map in the first place. So even if players get kicked out of a dungeon early, then there wasn’t a great loss.
13 Sell Rewards From Eureka
The Forbidden Land, Eureka Anemos, is an instanced area that players can access once they have completed the level 70 quest “And We Shall Call It Eureka,” given by Galiena at Rhalgr’s Reach (X:9.8, Y:12.5). This instanced area is perfect for fans of Final Fantasy 11, as much of its content references Square Enix’s previous MMO.
There is a multitude of tasks that players can undertake in Eureka and plenty that offers rewards too. Some of these rewards are prime profit-makers when put on the market board, such as the Final Fantasy 11-themed minions that can be earned from the FATEs in Eureka.
12 Collect Unlockable Crafting Recipes
No player has access to all crafting recipes unless they collect Master Recipes. These can be obtained once players reach level 50 and complete the quest Just Tooling Around in Mor Dhona, which can be picked up by Guiding Star (X: 21.9, Y: 6.9). There are three types of Master Recipe Tomes that can be unlocked: Crafting, Demimateria, and Glamours. Being able to buy all of them and use them requires the player to be at the highest level.
Having these recipes and selling the items made from them gives players an edge, as not every other player may be interested in unlocking these recipes. However, they do require crafting and gathering scripts to purchase.
11 Earn And Sell Rewards From Wondrous Tails
Once players are level 60, they can speak with the NPC Unctuous Adventurer in Idyllshire (X:5.7, Y:6.1) and accept the quest “Keeping Up with the Aliapohs” to gain access to Wondrous Tails. The system has now been made even easier as rewards are no longer randomized each week and instead offer Certificate of Commendations of varying quality that players can exchange for prizes.
Each week, players can accept a new journal from Khloe in Idyllshire (X:5.7, Y:6.1) which offers a bingo-like system. Players complete trials, raids, and dungeons to earn seals and hope they score a line or two (or three). Certain rewards can be sold for a decent amount of Gil.
10 Get Into Gardening
This way of making Gil is for the more patient players, but it can reap big rewards. However, the player will need a property like a Free Company house or a personal house where they can tend to their garden. One of the most profitable but time-consuming plants players can grow are thavnairian onions, as players use these onions to level up their Chocobo companions.
Doing so not only requires cross-breeding other vegetables to get the correct seeds, but also frequent and diligent watering. However, it definitely will result in a lot of Gil. Welcome to Final Fantasy meets Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley.
9 Craft Things Needed For Class Quests
Class quests make for dependable income for players wanting Gil. This is because many players go to the market board and buy items, rather than taking the time and care to craft them themselves. If players look up what items are required to complete class quests, just craft several copies of that that item and watch as players line up and buy it.
Of course, this will require leveling up a crafter. It’s highly recommended that players level a crafting job anyway, as crafting is a big part of making Gil.
8 Send Retainers On Ventures
Whenever possible, send retainers out on ventures. There is a chance they will come back with loot that the player can sell. Some loot, depending on the retainers’ class and level, can sell for a lot. For example, popular minions like the Fat Cat or minions that are incredibly rare are highly desired and can sell for up to millions of gil.
Sending retainers out does require a special currency called “ventures.” These are easily gotten by completing beast tribe quests or spending your company credits earned from FATEs and quests.
7 Run Expert Roulette And Sell Materia
Roulettes are a slow and steady way to make Gil. Not only do players automatically get a bit of Gil, but they can get loot worth selling. Unfortunately, most loot doesn’t sell for much. However, the more difficult roulettes have a different story. Highest level players can do Expert Roulettes and get the best of the best materia that is currently available.
Selling that materia on the market board every day will add up the Gil rather nicely. Also, many of the dungeons of Final Fantasy 14 are gorgeous and worth seeing more than once.
6 Craft Housing Decorations
Just because the player may not have an in-game home does not necessarily mean they shouldn’t craft furniture. In fact, crafting furniture is a huge moneymaker. Players with homes get really into decorating their yards and interior, and are happy to spend loads of Gil to have the perfect home.
The best crafting class for this is Carpenter, as it has the most housing recipes of any class. Through a little research on the market board, players can see what is selling for the most under the Housing category and get to work.
5 Sell Loot From Heaven On High Or Palace Of The Dead
Palace of the Dead and Heaven on High are special dungeons that are best for leveling classes quickly — they also have very special loot. Between the two special dungeons, Heaven on High has better rewards, but it is for higher-level players.
Whatever loot that players get from these dungeons is likely worth selling. These include rare orchestrion rolls, minions, and more. Even if the loot is unsellable, it is probably cool enough that most players would want to keep it (like an incredibly rare mount).
4 Level Gathering Classes
Gathering classes will not net as much Gil as crafting, but it doesn’t cost anything either. All gathering costs the player is time. Look on the market board at what is selling for decent Gil that is gather-able, then go ahead and gather while watching a T.V. show.
It is an easy task to do while working on something else. In terms of what gathering class is the most profitable, many would agree that it is the Mining class.
3 Make And Sell Boss Themed Weapons
Boss-themed weapons are often the hottest items on the market board. However, be careful and check the market board daily to see their prices. They can spike or totally become cheap from one day to the next. It is pretty easy to see why they are so desirable though, as they are quite shiny.
Some bosses are also references to past Final Fantasy games, making them well-loved by the fandom. The more difficult the boss, the more likely the weapon will sell for more Gil.
2 Buying From Beast Tribe NPCS And Re-Selling On The Market Board
Do not buy and resell from any old NPC. To make Gil, choosing which NPC to buy and resell from takes some tact. What players can do is look for what is re-sellable on the market board. This is also useful when it comes to what they can buy from Beast Tribes and what they can purchase with tomestones.
Re-selling these items is typically profitable because players are basically converting what is only sold via special currency into Gil.
1 Unlock Gemstone Trader Merchants And Re-Sell Their Items
Gemstone vendors started off in Shadowbringers and continued into Endwalker. They have more in stock the more the player completes Fates in their area. If the player completes all areas, then a special vendor is unlocked, and they have access to items that can be re-sold for a lot of Gil, as many players do not have access to these vendors.
Items that are sold by these vendors include minions, furniture, and sometimes even Chocobo bardings.
