It may have taken over a year but Square Enix is finally ready to release its expanded version of Final Fantasy 15. Dubbed the Royal Edition, this complete Final Fantasy 15 collection will include all prior released content, including DLC episodes, as well as some new goodies. As well, Square is bringing Final Fantasy 15 to the PC for the first time.
Both collections are set to release on March 6th, 2018, and even though the PC version is dubbed the Windows Edition, it will still include all of the bonus and add-on content featured in the Royal Edition.
As far as new content is concerned, the Royal and Windows Edition will include an expanded map for players to explore with new enemies and a new dungeon. The royal boat will be accessible at will so players can venture to some areas that were previously unavailable due to story restrictions. And a new accessory will be available that triggers an action tied to the Royal Arms in the game.
Perhaps the unique addition for the new versions is a first-person mode that lets players see the world through Noctis’ eyes. Unfortunately, the announcement trailer below doesn’t show what that new feature will look like, but it must have been a major undertaking for Square Enix. It will be interesting to see how the content and gameplay is presented when players are put right into the action and not at a distance.
Speaking of that content, the special editions are as fully featured as Final Fantasy 15 fans can hope. As expected, they both include the Episode Gladiolus, and Episode Prompto, and Episode Ignis story expansions, which featured their respective characters’ side stories. These major DLC releases offered players a chance to get to know Noctis’ party members outside of Final Fantasy 15’s main adventure, or at least what Square Enix chose to show players at first.
The Royal and Windows Edition also includes the multiplayer expansion, which let players explore Insomnia with a friend and tackle monsters. Given that Final Fantasy 15 is a 4-party affair throughout much of its runtime many were surprised the game wasn’t multiplayer from the start, but Square Enix had its own ideas.
The Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition and Windows Edition seem focused on players that missed out on the game the first time around. Obviously, PC players never got their chance and the game is sure to look good with graphical boosts and higher resolutions, but console players might not feel the pull as much. It might be simpler just to buy the season pass for the game, unless that First Person mode is too compelling to pass up.
Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition and Windows Edition releases March 6th, 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
