When something is old and still loved, the fanbase tends to take things less seriously. With time, even the problems of a game and its issues become part of something that is widely accepted by a dedicated community. This is the case for one of the most acclaimed JRPGs of all time, Final Fantasy 7.

The Game is so old and has so many weird design choices and issues caused by limitations of its era that even its bad things are celebrated by fans. Add that to the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and fans have an infinite source of jokes and memes.

10 Getting Over A Loved One’s Death

Cloud is a moody character who, even if not romantically, loved Aerith and cared for her. He almost kills her a couple of times and has trouble accepting how unreliable his own mind is. However, things get even worse when he is forced to watch Sephiroth brutally murder her and smirk at him, just one of Sephiroth’s many cruel deeds.

Oddly, by following the normal progression of the game, Cloud will soon be snowboarding and having fun. This is just one of the aspects that did not perfectly think through in the game and that we can have a good laugh when being reminded of it by 9GAG.

9 What Is Wrong With Your Timing?

This is such a silly moment in the first game. Obviously, the PlayStation One was not the most powerful console ever made. Still, it provided enough for Final Fantasy VII to have many mini-games that made the overall experience better. They were often silly but useful to change the pace of the game.

This timing mini-game that was needed to open a door was such a silly thing and made so little sense that it became a memorable part of Final Fantasy VII. So much so that they kept in the remake. This becomes especially silly when drawn so we can see the scene from a different perspective. Thanks again, 9GAG.

7 Obsession Or Trauma?

Peachytroopa-sephyori had the same issue that most kids had after beating Final Fantasy VII, it seems. It was such a cool, innovative game with an edgy main character, edgy villain, creative characters, and guns. It only makes sense that those who played it would be a bit obsessed. And those who died many times to Sephiroth would, instead, be traumatized.

Sephiroth would take so long to cast a spell that it sometimes forced players to start all over again the fight against him after dying to it. Being hit by Supernova was very unpleasant, which is why the meme is so funny.

5 You Did Not Age Well

This is funny because it is true. In order to enjoy Final Fantasy 7 nowadays, it is not unusual to see fans installing mods that change the textures and even the music to something more polished and modern. This is also proof that nothing beats our imagination. Especially when it is combined with nostalgia.

This is why Blatantlyrude’s meme perfectly shows what most feel and will not admit. The game is not nice to look at anymore and is also hard to enjoy. It looks old and feels old. It isn’t any less cherished, though.

4 Pun Intended

There are memes that are funny for being true, others that are funny for mocking aspects of the game that did not age well, and there are clever ones that make us slowly go from a chuckle to an out-loud laugh.

This is one of the memes that are just purely silly. So silly that it can make people laugh for a long time. Not only for being funny and a clever pun that some might have thought of when playing Final Fantasy 7 on the PC.

3 You Must Love Final Fantasy 7

This is how every Final Fantasy 7 player feels. Especially if someone tells to their face they do not like the game. Now, that is clearly impossible. Final Fantasy 7 has everything anyone would want in a game. It has tones of grinding, unclear ways to unlock secret stuff, easy main battles, responsive controls during mini-games, and so much more.

It is more than clear that there must be a secret reason for someone to dislike this perfect game. And therefore, Themegatater’s meme is perfect.

2 Sephiroth’s Selfie Stick

Sephiroth’s sword is way too long. Up to a point that one must wonder if there really is a reason for it to be like that. It seems Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s fan page figured out the true reason behind Masamune’s length. It has a practical reason to be like that and Sephiroth is just a misunderstood lad who wants to look good on his profile picture.

In all seriousness, this meme does highlight the fact that the writers do like to see Cloud impaled by Sephiroth’s sword go no reason.

1 Prepare For Trouble

There is literally nothing scarier than Sephiroth in the Final Fantasy 7 universe. Especially the Sephiroth from the original game who was a crazy, despair-inducing psychopath. The game is pretty much a railroad, so seeing Sephiroth might not be as terrifying to players. However, playing the game for the first time and seeing this force of nature doing whatever he wanted was indeed something.

Being in a situation in which Sephiroth was to be avoided, his sight would be the most terrifying thing to see. And also the last to see, as well (most likely). This is why SleepyTransformer’s meme is so perfect.
