Square Enix has been pretty quiet when it comes to details about Episode Intermission, the upcoming DLC that will release at the same time as FF7 Remake’s PS5 upgrade. Along with faster loading times and vastly improved graphics, Final Fantasy fans will be able to purchase Episode Intermission to experience the brand new story starring Yuffie, the Materia-hunting ninja.
The latest trailer to drop for FF7 Remake: Intergrade reveals a few more tidbits about what to expect in Intermission. Besides confirming that Yuffie and partner Sonon will infiltrate Shinra Corp in Midgar, we get our first look at what will surely be the big villain of Intermission and some other baddies that Yuffie will have to overcome.
The first is Scarlet, Shindra’s director of advanced weaponry and apparently the one directly responsible for the death of Sonon’s sister. She attacks in a giant suit of mechanized armor that looks like a tough fight.
Second is Nero, a baddie from the PS2’s Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus. That game focused on Vincent Valentine and Shinra’s human experiments that led to the SOLDIER program. He’s armed with strange Materia powers and skeletal wings on his back.
Weiss is also revealed at the beginning of the trailer as the new secret boss available to fight in the Shinra Combat Simulator, but he doesn’t seem to be included in Intermission’s story at all.
One other interesting point revealed is the return of Fort Condor, an optional minigame from the original Final Fantasy 7 where you have to repel waves of Shinra robots. Winning the minigame awards the player the Huge Materia, but it’s not clear what reward is provided in Intermission.
And for those looking for info on the second episode of FF7 Remake, the recent livestream that covered Square’s upcoming mobile title FF7: The First Soldier gave us a few hints. Former series director Tetsuya Nomura revealed that Cloud will eventually be “walking around a huge nature environment” and that it has “quite a different atmosphere from the first game.” This could be the first we hear of Episode 2’s open-world.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Itergrade and Episode Intermission arrive on June 10 exclusively on the PS5.
