Fans have been waiting patiently for Final Fantasy 7 Remake since the game was first announced at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference. And now that it’s finally available, it seems to be living up to expectations, earning acclaim from fans and critics alike. It seems as though the positive reception for Final Fantasy 7 Remake is translating into some strong sales for the title as well, with the game standing as the top-selling physical video game release in the UK this past week.
GfK has released the top 10 best selling video games in the UK for the week ending on April 11, and it’s no big surprise that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is at the top. It’s trailed by fellow heavy hitters Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with the rest of the list comprised mainly of older titles. Amazingly, Grand Theft Auto 5 still managed to crack the top ten, despite the game originally releasing all the way back in 2013.
Another notable game on the list is The Last of Us: Remastered. Last week, The Last of Us: Remastered was ranked 17th in the UK, but it seems its sales recently spiked, allowing it to snag the #10 position. It’s possible that The Last of Us 2 release date delay played a role in this, but that’s just speculation at this time.
Here is the top 10 best-selling games in the UK for the past week:
The Last of Us: Remastered
Grand Theft Auto 5
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Resident Evil 3
Forza Horizon 4
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
FIFA 20
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
It will be interesting to see how much longevity Final Fantasy 7 Remake has when it comes to the UK sales charts, but considering how popular the game is, it will likely remain a fixture on the list for some time to come.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out now, exclusively for PS4.
