Tifa is one of the most beloved characters in the Final Fantasy universe and certainly one of the most used party members in Final Fantasy VII. A whole new generation of gamers has a chance to fall in love with her all over again in the Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, those who want to continue her adventures after the first part of the remake draws to a conclusion will have to do so playing the original 1997 game.
One of the biggest differences of using Tifa in battle is her use of Limit Breaks which requires players to time button presses on a slot reel. If timed correctly Tifa can land all of her Limit Breaks in one turn absolutely devastating her opponents in battle. Let’s take a look at Tifa’s Limit Breaks Ranked from worst to best.
7 Beat Rush
The Beat Rush Limit Break is Tifa’s starting level 1 ability and is unlocked for her right at the start of the game. It is a physical attack that targets one opponent on the battlefield and does 1.25x the damage that her normal attack stats will allow.
The Limit Break triggers a slot reel which will allow her to double her damage with a critical hit if the player manages to land a “Yeah!” on the reel. The best thing about the Beat Rush attack is, unlike her other abilities, it impossible to miss.
6 Somersault
The Somersault Limit Break is an attack that follows on from Beat Rush, giving Tifa an extra attack combo using the slot reel. To obtain the Somersault, Tifa needs to use the Beat Rush attack 9 times in battle for it to become available.
Tifa’s Somersault hits her targets with an attack that 1.375x her normal attack with a chance of hitting a critical hit if the slot reel lands on a “Yeah!” However, if the player lands on the “Miss” slot then the attack will not trigger at all.
5 Waterkick
The Waterkick is Tifa’s first Level 2 Limit Break and unlocked after 96 enemies are defeated in battle. It targets one enemy at a time and hits enemies with an attack that deals 1.5x the damage of Tifa’s regular attacks.
Just like the Somersault Limit Break, the Waterkick is an additional attack that combines with its previous attack assuming the player has landed a “Hit” or a “Yeah” on the slots. However, if the player’s reel lands on the “Miss” then the attack will completely miss.
4 Meteodrive
The Meteodrive attack is Tifa’s second Level 2 Limit Break and is unlocked when Tifa has used the Waterkick attack 7 times in battles. For this move, Tifa finally gets a chance to show off her strength by hitting a single opponent with a vertical suplex.
Tifa’s Meteodrive is capable of hitting her targets with 1.625x the damage that her strength stats will allow. As with previous attacks, the damage is doubled if players land on the “Yeah!” slot and is combined with her previous attacks for extra damage.
3 Dolphin Blow
The Dolphin Blow is the first level 3 Limit Break that Tifa will have access to. It is unlocked after defeating 96 enemies in battle after Tifa has obtained the Waterkick Limit Break. The Dolphin Blow will hit Tifa’s target with 1.75x the damage of her normal attack.
As with her previous Limit Break, the attack will be tacked on to the previous attacks if the player has successfully landed a “Hit” or a “Yeah!” on the slot reel. Hitting a “Yeah!” results in Tifa landing a critical hit but a “Miss” will break the combo chain.
2 Meteor Strike
The Meteor Strike is Tifa’s second level 3 Limit Break and is unlocked after she has used the Dolphin Blow six times in battles. It’s a physical attack that will target a single random enemy in battle, lift them over her head with one hand, and slam them to the ground.
Tifa’s Meteor Strike will hit enemies with 1.875x the damage of her normal attack stats and is combined all of her previous Limit attacks in a combo. Despite her attacks targeting one opponent at a time landing a “Hit” or a “Yeah!” on the slot will mean she is very capable of clearing a group of enemies in one turn.
1 Final Heaven
The Final Heaven Limit Break is Tifa’s ultimate Limit Break and is unsurprisingly her most powerful physical attack in the game. The attack will hit Tifa’s targets with 2.5x her normal attack damage. However, all of her previous Limit Breaks must be successfully activated on the slot reel with either a “Hit” or a “Yeah!”.
To obtain Tifa’s final Limit players must unlock all of her previous abilities, return to Tifa’s home in Nibelheim, and input the correct commands at the piano. These commands on the PlayStation are, X, Square, Triangle, L1+Triangle, L1+Square, X, Square, Triangle, L1+X, Circle, X, Square, and X. Once the correct tune is played the piano will unlock a letter and a manual where Tifa will gain the ability.
