These days, the hunt for secrets or hidden, under-appreciated details in video games has been made a fair bit easier. Dataminers can make predictions about future updates by looking at the code, and easter eggs in popular games can easily be found simply by turning to the internet for clues. Now that Final Fantasy VII: Remake has been out for over a month, the hunt for any and all details of interest has started to taper off, but not before a few key truths were revealed.
Intrepid gamers have looked at the models, and the results are in: Cloud Strife has a bigger butt than Aerith Gainsborough.
Were it not for our ability to peek into the code of all our favorite games, this detail may have gone unappreciated. Luckily for everyone, Twitter user @HBJohnXuandou refused to let Cloud’s butt fade into obscurity. What was Cloud doing all those squats for, if not for the Championship Belt item and a nice derriere?
A few people offered up theories not on Cloud’s butt, but on Aerith’s, claiming it was likely that the developers decided ’nerfing’ her to decrease the odds of it clipping through her sundress was their safest bet for avoiding visual errors. Despite also wearing a dress in the models used for this comparison, the case was made that simply paying more attention to the potential fabric clipping for the comparatively short segment (in which Cloud does not initiate any combat that might aggravate clipping to start with) meant Cloud’s behind could be left untouched safely.
We think there’s a much simpler explanation. How many squats did we see Aerith doing over the course of the game? Not many. As the party’s resident (and only) mage, she doesn’t need to put in that kind of legwork. Aerith’s true charm comes from her winning personality and love of good old fashioned mischief. Cloud, on the other hand, takes upwards of ten minutes to figure out what a high-five is and exudes about as much charm as a rock. He needs more assets if he ever hopes to measure up to Tifa and Barret, with their big muscles and bigger hearts.
