As 2019 turned the corner into 2020, what was a very crowded first half of the year for blockbuster game releases started to thin out a little. Release dates for Final Fantasy VII Remake, Marvel’s Avengers, and Cyberpunk 2077 were all delayed, the latter two pretty heavily. The delays have become even more annoying as time has passed what with many of us currently housebound with little to do but play video games.

While the gaming industry has been affected detrimentally in numerous ways by the COVID-19 outbreak, in certain other ways it has a distinct advantage over its media rivals. Conventions and tournaments around the world might have been delayed or cancelled, but games can still be released as planned provided they are finished and ready to go.

That only goes as far as digital downloads, of course. As more and more stores are forced to close and people self-isolate, buying a physical copy of a game might not come so easy. In fact, people who have ordered physical copies of FFVII Remake received emails this week stating deliveries of the game, due to arrive on April 10, 2020, have been delayed indefinitely, reports Hey Poor Player.
