There are a ton of little side activities in Final Fantasy VII: Remake, and many of them lead to trophies for accomplishing them. There is one trophy, though, that has gotten the ire of basically the whole FFVII: Remake community: the pro difficulty pull up contest with Jules.

The pull up contest is already a tedious little mini-game, but facing off against Jules is an exercise in frustration. For one, he recovers way faster than Tifa from mistakes, and he does reps at an insane rate, especially in the second round. In order to beat him and earn the trophy, you have to crank out pull ups in a flawless fashion. That isn’t easy to do, even on a lower difficulty. Luckily, there are a few tricks out there to make your life a little easier. Here are the best tips for beating Jules in the pull up contest.

Turn The Volume Down

The pull up contest is ultimately a rhythm game, and it can be hard to maintain that rhythm when there is additional music in the background. You can also hear fellow gym rats yelling out at you during the contest, which is distracting.

To mitigate these distractions and improve focus, turn down the volume for the music and voices before the mini-game begins. This will let you focus on the rhythm of the contest itself.

Watch Tifa’s Movements

As each contest begins, button prompts appear on screen to show you how to do pull ups. As you complete reps, though, the prompts will fade away and you will have to rely on the established rhythm. However, Tifa will also give visual cues. She moves in sync with the button prompts, so when she stops moving, it is time to hit the next button. You’ll have to move fast, though, as taking too long will cause her to fail.

Hit Six Times To Recover

At certain points in the contest, Tifa will become fatigued. When this happens, the prompts will appear again, and you will have to repeatedly hit a button to recover. As game8 points out, you really only need to hit the button six times. If you’re fast enough, this is enough to recover entirely and you can return to the rhythm. If you’re too slow, Tifa won’t recover. However, if you hit the button too many times the game will register it as a button press after the recovery and Tifa will fail.

Just hit the button six times and you’re golden.

Conclusion

The pull up contest with Jules is frustrating, but with enough practice and concentration it can be overcome. But maybe save this one for after you’ve beat the game, or else you’ll be there for a while.
