Surprising absolutely no one, Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake has shipped 3.5 million copies in just three days. The long-awaited remake of one of the most beloved entries in the Final Fantasy series, I’m not sure anyone thought this game wouldn’t do well.

Still, this isn’t anything to scoff at. The numbers might be a little bolstered thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but Square Enix has a certified smash on its hands. It seems even people unfamiliar with the original jumped in, propelling this game up the charts and giving it an incredibly large opening weekend.

This success is well-deserved, as well. While purists might be disappointed at the shift to real-time RPG combat, Remake is a lovingly crafted reimagining of Final Fantasy VII that adds in details to expand its incredible world. It definitely goes overboard at times, but it’s nice to see Square Enix not homogenizing its design or stripping its characters of personality.

We’ll have a long wait until the next part arrives, but with success like this, it is pretty clear that part two is coming. Square Enix would be insane to let this kind of success slip away, especially since it stands to reason that part two will be even more popular.
