Originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001, Final Fantasy 10 is one of the few Final Fantasy titles to receive a sequel, with Final Fantasy 10-2 releasing in 2003. Both games were re-released as an HD remaster for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2013, before releasing for PlayStation 4 in 2015, then later for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One, allowing a whole new range of fans to access it.
If you’re playing Final Fantasy 10 and want to speak Al Bhed with the best of them, you’ll need to find all 26 Al Bhed primer collectibles to become fluent in the Al Bhed language. Here’s where you can find them all.
Al Bhed Primer vol. I - Al Bhed Salvage Ship
After the opening sequence and your short-lived trip to the ruins, you’ll find yourself waking up on an Al Bhed ship. In the northernmost corner of the ship you will find your first Al Bhed primer, and likely net yourself your first trophy/achievement too.
NOTE: If you happen to miss this one, it will appear later in the Sanubia Desert, just northeast of the Oasis.
Al Bhed Primer vol. II - Besaid Village (Crusader’s Lodge)
Once you reach Besaid Village, head into the Crusader’s Lodge and you’ll find your next primer on the floor in front of you. (It’s the book that’s barely visible behind the red-haired guy sat in the foreground.)
Al Bhed Primer vol. III - S.S. Liki (Power Room)
When you are aboard the S.S. Liki, you’ll want to head below deck and go into the power room. After a short cutscene, move forward to find your next primer book on the floor, just on the right of the screen.
NOTE: If you miss this one, you can find it later in the Sanubia Desert in the same tent as Wakka.
Al Bhed Primer vol. IV - S.S. Kilika (Tavern)
In Kilika Village, head to the inn in the very center of the area, and you will find the next primer ready and waiting on the counter inside.
Al Bhed Primer vol. V - S.S. Wino (Bridge)
While on the S.S. Wino, head to the bridge that’s just near the stairs to find your next primer on the floor behind the captain.
Al Bhed Primer vol. VI - Luca Stadium (Basement B)
After a quick rundown on Blitzball in Luca, you’re free to move around, so head down to basement B (to the left of the locker room) and you’ll find the primer hidden just behind this guy on the right.
Al Bhed Primer vol. VII - Luca Theatre (Reception)
While you’re still in Luca, head over to the theatre and keep going until you reach the reception. Here, you will find your next primer on the floor just on the left of the screen.
Al Bhed Primer vol. VIII - Mi’hen Highroad
The next primer is completely unmissable as you will be given it automatically during a cutscene with Rin, the same NPC who will reward you with 99 Underdog’s Secret items if you collect all 26 primers.
Al Bhed Primer vol. IX - Mi’hen Highroad (Newroad, North)
At the northern section of the Mi’hen Highroad, you’ll find your next primer on the path close to the cliff edge. Just look for the NPC Shelinda (the woman in the green dress in the background) if you’re unsure where it is.
Al Bhed Primer vol. X - Mushroom Rock Road (Precipice)
Before you enter the elevator to ascend to the control room in Mushroom Rock Road, head west, take the platform down, and then follow the curving path all the way around. You’ll find the primer hidden on this ledge.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XI - Djose Highroad
On the Djose Highroad, you’ll find your next primer hidden to the right of the path, directly behind a stalagmite. If you’re having trouble finding it, it’s positioned between the two chests that you can find on the left side of the path.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XII - Moonflow (North Wharf)
Once you have crossed the Moonflow, head to the North Wharf and you’ll find the next primer just up a small ramp on the right side of the screen.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XIII - Guadosalam (House)
When you’re in Guadosalam, head to the house left of Seymour’s mansion, and inside you will find your next primer hidden just behind the central tree trunk.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XIV - Thunder Plains (Agency)
Inside the Agency in the Thunder Plains, after speaking to Rikku, you will see Rin appear from further inside. He will ask you how well you are doing with the Al Bhed language, you must answer with “Okay” to get the next primer.
WARNING: If you answer with “No good,” he will not give you the primer. Fortunately, you can get it later in the Sanubia Desert in a small dead-end just after you find Rikku.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XV - Macalania Woods (Lake Road)
One of the hardest to spot primers is in Macalania Woods hidden behind some plants. In the image above, the primer is just in front of Tidus, you can just about see it.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XVI - Macalania Woods (Agency Front)
Just in front of the Agency building where you obtained Al Bhed Primer vol. XIV, you’ll find vol. XVI just lying on the ground to the left of the doorway.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XVII - Sanubia Desert (Central)
In the central area of the Sanubia Desert, you want to be on the lookout for a signpost, as shown above. Just to the left of it is your next primer.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XVIII - Sanubia Desert (Central)
Head west from the last primer and go into the desert section with the ruined buildings, inside this northernmost ruin you will find your next primer.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XIX - Al Bhed Home
WARNING: This primer is missable!
Your only chance to get it is just outside Home, to the left of the map area.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XX - Al Bhed Home (Living Quarters)
WARNING: This primer is missable!
In the main corridor of Home, you’ll see two doors facing each other on either side. Head into the one on the left and you’ll find your next primer on the bed just inside.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XXI - Al Bhed Home (Main Corridor)
Once inside the main corridor of Home, follow the path around to the right and you will find your next primer at the very end.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XXII - Bevelle Temple (Priest’s Passage)
You can only get this immediately after Seymour and Yuna’s wedding. You’ll find it in the temple just before you reach the cloister of trials.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XXIII - The Calm Lands (Central, Northwest section)
In the Calm Lands, head north-west from the Agency and you will find your next primer randomly on the edge of a cliff.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XXIV - Remiem Temple
The Remiem Temple is located on the south-eastern side of the Calm Lands and requires a chocobo to access. You’ll find your next primer near the end of the path that goes around to the left of the temple entrance.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XXV - The Calm Lands (Cavern of the Stolen Fayth)
In the north area of the Calm Lands, you will find a gorge that has an entrance to the optional Cavern of the Stolen Fayth (where you find the aeon Yojimbo). Your next primer can be found in a dead-end here, near the north of the map.
Al Bhed Primer vol. XXVI - Omega Ruins
The very last primer is hidden in another optional area - the Omega Ruins. In order to unlock this area on the airship map, you need to search the following co-ordinates: 69-75x and 33-38y.
The mini-map is not filled in on your first visit, so from the start, go left, right, right, left, and then you will see it in the central area in front of you.
