When playing an MMORPG, there is almost always going to be a second-hand market amongst players. Whether someone is standing on the streets yelling about their special prices, or there is an easy to use market board, players will make money.
In Final Fantasy XIV, players can use an interconnected board to buy and sell tons of goods across their servers. To get the best prices or to make some extra Gil, players will need to learn how to manage the ever-changing game environment. Without further delay, here are 10 ways to successfully use the market board without getting ripped off.
10 Make a Retainer
To make a profit, players will need to have a retainer. Making a retainer is free, and every account gets two. Each retainer can hold twenty items, and players can easily call them using a bell to update their items.
Retainers will hold Gil in their account until they’re withdrawn from, and players must manually update prices.
9 Remember That All The Boards Are Connected
Another thing that players should note is that all the boards are connected. Choosing to buy from a market board in a different location, however, will have a charged a fee. Players will want to avoid any extra fees when possible.
Send your retainer to the towns that are the most popular on your server to make more money.
8 Sell Crafted Items
A fast way to make money is by selling crafted goods. Almost every crafting class can easily make money, especially once they can make higher-level items. Some classes like the weaver can even make special housing items that players will pay big for.
Those who choose this route will need to keep material costs in mind.
7 Greed More
Another quick way to make money is by doing dungeon runs and taking unwanted items. At the end of the dungeon, greed the items that the other players don’t want. While not everything can be put on the market board, there’s bound to be something worth reselling.
This way, players can earn a profit while still leveling up. To stock up, run through a dungeon with a group of friends or with a strong tank.
6 Never Take Gold
When doing quests, always take the items even if you offer gold pieces. Most quest armor and tools can be sold on the market board for much more than a player would earn by taking the pieces.
This becomes even more true during expansion and high-level quests. Just make sure that the inventory isn’t too clogged up with items!
5 Watch Out For Unsellable Items
There are tons of items out there that players simply can’t sell on the market board for a variety of reasons. For example, items from a special questline or event won’t be tradable. Items that were used in a house or have spirit bonded will also be stuck with their respective owners/players.
If you can’t sell an item, this is most likely the reason.
4 Just Buy The Item Instead Of Crafting It
For those trying to level up a crafting class, they’re probably going to need the market board. The problem is that some materials will be cheap but are always in bundles of ninety-nine. The game doesn’t give players the ability to buy quantities from retainers.
At many points in the game, it may just be best to buy the item you are trying to make to complete the quest instead of stocking up on the crafting recipe’s ingredients.
3 Check Each Seller Multiple Times
The best thing players can do when shopping for materials or items is to check the board throughout the day. Sellers will constantly try to underprice each other, especially during busy times of the day. Use this to your advantage to get cheap items.
Keep in mind, however, that rare items like special cloths will always be high in price while toadskin leather will fluctuate.
2 Stay Up To Date By Using The App
The game is constantly going through updates and events so items will vary, especially from server to server. If an item is being monopolized, then it’s likely players will take it upon themselves to drop the price if possible. Square has even been known to give out rare items randomly.
Understand that not everything is going to be easy money, and sometimes demand will just stop for certain items. To keep a closer check, install the Final Fantasy XIV app to track the market board.
1 Double Check Everything About An Item
One thing players have found is some materials or items can be bought or obtained easily. Even so, the market board will sell these items for much higher than their normal price.
This is a trap that many newer players fall into and can end up costing them thousands of Gil over time. Players should know everything there is to know about what item they’re interested in the most and how much it’s actually worth.
