It may be a bit surprising for newer players to learn, but real estate is a part of Final Fantasy XIV. You can get your very own house or room in the game and collect items to decorate it with. Like everything else in the game, though, the housing system is fully fleshed out and offers tons to do for new and veteran players alike. When starting out, it can get a bit confusing, and even the very process of getting your own place may be confusing. From choosing your home to make it look suave, this guide below will give you everything you need to know about housing.
10 Room or House
First off you need to decide if you want a room or house. Housing is extremely limited and costs much more. There is a restricted number of housing plots per server, and you must buy the land and the house. If you are inactive for more than forty-five days, though, it will be demolished.
A room, on the other hand, can be bought in your free company house or in the servers apartment building if vacant.
9 Meeting Prerequisites
For housing, you will have to scope out neighborhoods daily to wait for a plot to go on sale. Before you do that, though, you need to be level 50 and a second lieutenant in the grand company of your choice. To get a room easily, you should also look for a free company with a house.
Once accepted, you can buy a room for 300,000 Gil if available.
8 Taking a Trade
You’re going to need to decorate your house, and one of the cheapest ways to do so is taking a trade. Trades like weaver can help you make wallpapers and flooring for your home while saving you time and money. They’re also a great way to make a profit.
If you’re in a Free Company, you may even have a company crafter that will work with you.
7 Using The Market Board
If you don’t want to go through all the hassle and want cheaper items, then you can use the market board. Lots of players will build items and then place them on the board to make a profit. This is a quick way to get to fill your room with unique furniture.
Be aware that market prices are constantly changing, and some items may randomly skyrocket.
6 Learn to Dye
Another important ability you should learn is how to dye cloths and furniture. While not every item in your home will be dyeable, there are plenty that are up for color changes. The dye in the game has a wide range of shade and colors to perfectly fit your style.
The quest is easy to do and, as of right now, can be found near The Waking Sands.
5 Event Items
Keep in mind that not every item you see is going to be available to purchase. There are plenty of items like the Moogle couch that can only be obtained through quests. Many of these items aren’t tradable, meaning that the only way to get them is to put the extra time in.
There are also plenty of seasonal items that only appear during in-game events.
4 Layout The Room
One of the first things you should do before placing your furniture is to layout your room. This can be done by buying partisans and doorways. These extra walls can turn a large room into a nice apartment, making you feel more at home.
Be careful of your light when laying these out as it can’t be moved from the center of the room.
3 Play With Lighting
Once you have your room laid out, you can play with the lighting. By turning the lighting up or down, you can change the ambiance of the room. If you have lanterns turning the lights down will make them stick out more.
If you just want to use your overhead light, though, it’s best to turn you lighting all the way up.
2 Learn About Placement
Another thing you will need to learn to deal with is item placement. Items can be stuck inside of other items or even partly in walls. You need to carefully rotate and place items to not end up with any messes while decorating.
This can be especially challenging if you have made smaller rooms inside of your room or have limited space.
1 Verify Your Settings
Once you have everything set-up, you need to verify your settings. Do you want to let visitors in your room or block it off? You can also choose to leave a welcome message for friends. If you own a house, you can even have a few other tenants living with you.
Make sure to set this up if you don’t want to find random players in your home.
