The Finnish Hockey League has decided to have its playoffs unfold on NHL 20 due to its season being postponed thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The COVID-19 outbreak has had a massive effect on the sporting world. Pretty much every league and tournament on the planet right now is on hiatus as various governing bodies decide whether to wait it out or cancel the season altogether. Or, there’s the unconventional third option being taken by the Finnish Hockey League.

The Finnish Hockey League revealed that it will be letting its play-offs unfold on NHL 20. Each of the ten teams to make the playoffs is allowed to pick one person to represent and play for them. Each matchup will be a best of five series, and all matches will be broadcast on Finnish TV station MTV and presented by Telia, Finland’s largest esports league.

By the time you read this, the ePlay-offs will have already begun, starting on April 8, 2020. How fans react to this method of getting the league done will be very interesting. It sounds as if the alternative was not having the play-offs at all and therefore, not crowning a champion. Surely this is better than that, and it also gives the people of Finland some sport to watch on TV which is obviously seriously lacking right now.
