In Fire Emblem Three Houses, Ashe Ubert is the Blue Lion’s resident archer. With wide eyes and a freckled face, he has not only the appearance of an innocent soul but also the heart of one. Just by looking at him with his overall positive attitude, anyone would be quick to assume he has lived without hardship, sins, and tragedy.

That being said, there’s no character in Three Houses with a perfectly happy backstory, and Ashe is no exception. He has committed crimes and is tied to certain enemies, but the little known stories behind these feats are what make Ashe a character worth exploring.

10 Grew Up In A Restaurant

Before his parents died, Ashe grew up in a restaurant setting with two younger siblings. As he helped out his parents in their restaurant, his knowledge and love for cooking naturally grew.

This culinary interest followed him into his days at the Officers Academy where students can take on tasks such as cooking in the Dining Hall. In fact, he is one of the few students who make an excellent partner when using the Cooking Together feature.

9 Compatibility With Dedue

While Ashe has one of the friendliest faces in Three Houses, his fellow Blue Lion, Dedue, has the most intimidating one. Still, the two are able to bond nicely over their shared interest in cooking.

When Ashe expresses interest in learning more about Duscur cuisine, Dedue takes that to heart and prepares one of his homeland’s specialties for his friend. In the middle of eating, they chat about old cooking memories with their families until Ashe is brought to tears.

8 Knows How To Haggle

In his Support conversation with Petra, Ashe reveals a hidden talent for haggling that comes in handy at the Marketplace.

After Petra misinterprets Anna’s aggressive merchant behavior for a duel, Ashe steps in, clears up the misunderstanding, and snags a great deal on some vulneraries. Even a top merchant like Anna could not compete with Ashe’s bargaining skills.

7 Thief Life

After his parents passed away, it was all up to Ashe to provide for his two younger siblings despite still being a child himself. With a lack of money and opportunities for well-paying jobs, Ashe resorted to stealing from the rich.

To tie this into his utility on the battlefield, Ashe’s Personal Ability is Lockpick, which allows him to open doors and chests without keys. This is normally an Ability that is associated with the Thief class, but Ashe can make good use out of it in any class he chooses.

6 His Connection To Lonato

One of the earlier missions in Three Houses involved stopping a lord named Lonato. That man happened to be one of the wealthy people Ashe had stolen from. In fact, Lonato caught Ashe in the act of breaking into his home.

But rather than punishing the boy for his crime, Lonato showed Ashe compassion by adopting him and his siblings into his family. The two built a close relationship, which only ended up making their final encounter as enemies even more tragic.

5 His Adoptive Brother

In addition to having a close bond with Lonato, Ashe grew close with his adoptive brother, Christophe. Unfortunately, Christophe was executed by the Knights of Seiros on behalf of the church.

In an attempt to learn more about Christophe, Ashe confronted Catherine, one of the knights who played a role in his execution. Catherine mentioned that although she had been friends with Christophe in the Blue Lions house, she felt he needed to be executed for going against Lady Rhea.

4 Can Marry Catherine

Because Catherine has history and knowledge of both Lonato and Christophe, she is connected to Ashe in a series of events and conversations.

They interact in the mission against Lonato, they share a Paralogue together, and their Support conversations can lead to a surprising marriage. This marriage comes as a shock due to the fact that Catherine literally played a role in the deaths of both Lonato and Christophe.

3 Can Be An Enemy After Recruitment

Although many students can become enemies in the War Phase of the game, most of them can be recruited into the player’s class as a way to spare their lives later one. Strangely enough, even if Ashe is recruited, he will show up as an enemy in the Verdant Wind and Silver Snow routes.

At Ailell, Ashe will be waiting for his former schoolmates and professor to arrive. After he is defeated, he can be spared and asked to rejoin the team if he was previously recruited.

2 Scared Of Ghosts

Ashe is brave enough to stand on the frontlines of a bloody war, but there is one thing that never fails to scare him-ghosts.

In his Support with Annette, Ashe is immediately freaked out when they’re expected to clean an ancient tower in the dark. Meanwhile, in his Support with Marianne, he screamed after thinking she was an actual ghost.

1 His Dream

Similar to Ingrid, Ashe has great respect for knights and wishes to someday become one himself.

When Ashe expresses interest in becoming a knight like Gilbert, the veteran knight asks him to consider what it is that he wishes to protect. It takes Ashe while to think about it, but in the end, he decides that he will protect his adoptive father’s pride and wishes.
