Before Fire Emblem: Three Houses came out, there were a majority of fans that want to teach the Black Eagle house. Many people were interested in how Edelgard was going to play a role in the game. She was also responsible for telling fans that the crests were to blame.
As characters slowly get revealed, the Black Eagles have an interesting cast that mostly consists of nobles, and depending on the route chosen, their roles will be at risk if they can be recruited or not. Here are 10 secrets about the Black Eagle characters from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
10 Had A Different English Voice Actress
The 2018 Nintendo E3 trailer for Fire Emblem: Three Houses was something to highly anticipate. The series was coming back on home consoles and will have a bigger scope similar to the Wii’s Radiant Dawn. Now that the game is out, a lot of changes happened. One of the changes that occurred was the original voice actress for Edelgard.
Cristina Vee was attached to the role and can be heard throughout the trailer, but when more trailers came out, Tara Platt took over the role. It is believed to be a recast due to Edelgard’s character changing to have a more darker and serious role than assumed.
9 Had A Slight Change In One Of Her Supports
You either love Bernadetta or hate her due to her constant shrieking and cowardly nature. While it can get repetitive having to see her do the same thing in her C Supports, she has a reason for acting this way given her abusive past.
In her B Support with Byleth, she admits to them that her father would train her to be a good wife, being tied to a chair in the process. The original English version of the support includes her saying the word “submissive” and additional information such as staying quiet. This was changed to be shorter and to the point.
8 Borrowing Someone’s Glasses
Petra is one of the most gorgeously designed characters in the game, due to her exotic background as a princess of Brigid, a vessel for the Empire. Each student has a set number of portraits ranging in emotion for both the academy and the war phase.
Due to this, she and Golden Deer student Ignatz have unique portraits wearing and not wearing glasses respectively. By doing this, one has to be recruited into Byleth’s house so they can interact in their support conversations.
7 First Female To Take On This Archetype
Edelgard has done a lot of things Fire Emblem lords have not done such as being encountered as an enemy in her route if the player chooses to side with Rhea. Due to her pivotal role in Three Houses, she is also the first female character to fall under the Rudolf archetype. They are often seen as ruling leaders who also act as villains, with examples like FE2/FE15’s Rudolf, FE3/FE12’s Hardin, and FE9’s Ashnard.
6 An Unlikely Dream Of His
Hubert might have a creepy presence to some people, but he has respectable loyalty to Edelgard and is a cunning man. He is not one for emotions, but he isn’t completely heartless and has ambitions outside of his role as Edelgard’s retainer. According to the counselor notes, he wrote his issues about wanting to become a pegasus knight, but it is impossible, gameplay, and personality-wise. Since he is male, Hubert can only have access to wyverns, and he is also afraid of heights.
5 Somewhat Interesting Reference
At the beginning of the Black Eagles route, Ferdinand can be a bit pushy in admitting to being a noble and doing things in a noble way. In Byleth’s C support with him, Ferdinand says, “Well, anything Edelgard can do, I can do better.”
Whether the English localization for Three Houses did this intentionally or not, that line is a reference to the song “Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better),” from the musical Annie Get Your Gun.
4 When Recruited Outside Her Student House
Many of the fascinating gameplay mechanics Three Houses offer are the exclusive conversations, items, weapons, and other exclusives that can be obtained in each route. Dorothea, and to an extent, Manuela, when on any route except Crimson Flower, will have special dialogue fearing for the safety of the Opera House in Enbarr. Not only does it show a piece of history for the singers, but also unlocks the Opera Company Volunteers battalion.
3 A Fear To Conquer
Linhardt has a lazy outlook on things and loves sleeping in, he is still a smart and caring guy who happens to be one of the best users of faith magic. When you start off with the Black Eagle house, he and the others are exposed to the fact that they may have to take lives to protect themselves and their school.
When you defeat one of the thieves with the scholar, he will say, “I… killed them. What have I done? The blood…” The sound of his voice heavily implies he has homophobia, the fear of blood.
2 Shares A Paralogue, Yet No Support
Caspar, similar to Ferdinand, can only access his own paralogue if he is recruited into another house or for siding with the church. He is paired with Mercedes, who noticed the Death Knight has a battalion scouting the monastery.
They share a conversation about the situation and act like they are good acquaintances, but outside of that and activities at the monastery, they do not have a support conversation together.
1 Reveals Backstory Through Supports
Unlike Dimitri and Claude, whose backstories are revealed in their routes’ stories, Edelgard explains her past from support conversations with Byleth. She explains her childhood as she is the only one to survive in her family and later reveal she not only bears the Crest of Seiros, but also the Crest of Flames, with the latter she got from being experimented on. Given how in the Black Eagles route, you have the choice to go with her or Rhea, it makes knowing about her completely optional.
