Fire Emblem fans were taken by surprise when Dimitri was shown in his time skip design. What happened to his eye? Why was he acting so demented wanting to kill every last one of them? The answers did not disappoint when the game came out and got to experience the Azure Moon route.
As much as Dimitri has an outstanding character arc, the other Blue Lions students also have unique characteristics that make them work well together. Whether that’d be childhood friends, students at a sorcery school, or commoners being saved from doomed fates, their parts were integral in the game. Here are 10 secrets you didn’t know about the Blue Lions characters from Three Houses.
10 The Color In His Eyes
Naturally, Dimitri has blue eyes. But the game does something so clever depending on your alignment for the house you choose. During the academy phase, if he and his house are chosen, his sprite’s eyes will be blue. But they can also turn red if he is an enemy or yellow as a third army enemy. Neither Claude nor Edelgard shares this trait with Dimitri, so he stands out in the sprite world.
9 Lost In Translation
Sylvain is known to be quite the bodacious philanderer. Perhaps he is too fixated on that when he shares a conversation with Ingrid in their C support. She mentions about how Sylvain even flirted with Ingrid’s mother at eight years old, but during a harvest festival, also “making eyes” at a scarecrow. The Japanese translation is more literal as Sylvain was seen flirting with a cross-dressing man. While both versions of the support conversation display the hilarity in Sylvain’s constant flirting, one was more subtle while the other was more obvious.
8 Different Last Name
The characters in Three Houses have their names localized and all of them share the same name (despite different spellings due to Romanization), but Ashe is the only character in the game to have a different last name in English and Japanese.
In English, his last name is Ubert, while in Japanese, is Durand. The reason for the name change is unknown, but there is a funny theory that it is to avoid confusion with the band Duran Duran.
7 Has A Surprising Distant Relative
The Empire became divided to become the Kingdom, and then the Kingdom divided to create an Alliance. Because there was a cadet branch that occurred from the result of half the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus forming the Leicester Alliance, there is a very far off kinship shared by Dimitri and Claude. Due to his, they happen to be distant relatives, and Dimitri happens to be the only lord to be both connected to Claude and Edelgard, as the latter became his maternal stepsister.
6 For His Majesty
Dedue is the strong definition of loyalty, as he dedicates his life to Dimitri after being saved by him from the Tragedy of Duscur. His goal was clear when Dimitri found out about the identity of the Flame Emperor, to have their head no matter what cost.
As he cannot be recruited into any other house, he is also the only retainer to possibly die permanently instead of retreating, whether his paralogue has been cleared, or if he dies anytime in Classic Mode.
5 Has No Ending With Any Female Character
Ingrid has many characteristics about her that make her different from the other pegasus knights in the series. Her relationship with Dimitri, Felix, and Sylvain also played a part in her character arc. Speaking of relationships, she is the only female student to not have an ending with another girl. The highest she can go with female supports are at B rank, so even if her highest support is with someone like Dorothea, chances are Ingrid might have a solo ending.
4 A Secret, Tragic Farewell
Mercedes is one of the sweetest characters in the game, so seeing her go through the hardships of war can make someone’s heart sink. She always knew that her brother was present at Garreg Mach and even behind the mask as the Death Knight.
If the player recruits Caspar and completes their shared paralogue in Azure Moon, there will be a cutscene after the battle in chapter 2o. She and her little brother have their final moments together before the latter passes on in her arms.
3 Mercedes’ Original Hair Color
Going back to Mercedes, she, alongside Edelgard, and a handful of other characters, was the first to be shown in the 2018 Nintendo E3 trailer. Edelgard has not changed whatsoever, but Mercedes begs to differ as her hair was originally brown. The reason for her hair being changed from brown to light blonde hair is unknown, but it is a fascinating Easter egg given her origins being from the Adrestian Empire.
2 Close To Betraying Their King (Annette/Felix)
During the development of Three Houses, there was another route in Azure Moon that could have happened due to the events of the game. In chapter 18, Felix and Annette can be encountered as enemies due to a choice that never takes full effect in the final version.
The choice in question is to either head for the Kingdom or defeat Edelgard. Due to Dimitri’s vengeance, he preferred the latter, which ended up getting Rodrigue’s father killed and Annette wanted to go to the Kingdom to protect her mother and uncle.
1 A Warrior’s Soft Spot
People at firsthand like to think that Felix is a jerk and unlikable, and that’s true at first, but when you get into his supports and role in Azure Moon, he is one of the best-written characters to grace in Fire Emblem. There are many sides to Felix that make him more than just a focused swordsman. He reveals to like cats in his support with Bernadetta, has a weakness for singers seen with his Annette and Dorothea supports, and can overcome his dislike of sweets from Lysithea’s supports.
