Fire Emblem: Three Houses features an interactive storyline that diverges into several different paths depending on the decisions you make. Because there’s so much to do and keep track of, there will be many details and secrets that go unnoticed if the game is played through only once or twice.

In addition, some mysteries are only unveiled in certain routes, paralogues, or support conversations. Just when you think you know everything there is to know about Three Houses, it seems like there’s always something new and shocking to learn. Spoilers may lie ahead if any details slipped through the cracks during your first few playthroughs of the game.

10 Marianne’s Crest

Marianne is a shy student who will often keep to herself. Because of that, most people at Garreg Mach Monastery are unaware of the mysterious Crest she bears.

In her paralogue, Marianne is falsely accused of transforming into a deadly Beast due to her Crest. While her “Crest of the Beast” got its nickname after its original bearer, Maurice, turned into a Beast himself, the incident was a mere coincidence that left Marianne feeling as though she was cursed by her Crest.

9 Lysithea’s Two Crests

Lysithea is known for not wanting to be treated like a child, but there is a very dark story behind why that is the case.

When she was younger, she was experimented on for Crest research by a secret organization known as “Those who Slither in the Dark.” Although the inhumane experimentation resulted in Lysithea having two powerful Crests, it also greatly shortened her lifespan, which is why she always feels the need to grow up as soon as possible.

8 Claude’s Real Name

Every house leader has their secrets, and Claude’s secret happens to be about his upbringing. Though he eventually reveals to Byleth in their support conversations that he was born in Almyra rather than Fodlan, he never once mentions in the game that “Claude” is just a fake name.

Due to the discrimination he faced as someone of both Almyran and Fodlan descent, Claude chose to keep his birth name, Khalid," a secret from everyone during his time in Fodlan. The truth behind this only came to light after an interview with the Three Houses writers.

7 True Identities Of Seteth & Flayn

When Byleth first enters the monastery, Seteth and Flayn are introduced as the green-haired sibling duo who have a close connection to the Archbishop. However, there is much more to them than meets the eye.

Rather than inheriting their Crest of Saint Cichol and Saint Cethleann by birth, Seteth and Flayn are actually the original Saints themselves. This means that they are also father and daughter but act as siblings in order to help hide their true identities.

6 Jeritza’s Story

From the very beginning, Jeritza came off as a suspicious character. After he was accused of being the Death Knight, he disappeared from the monastery and his whereabouts remained unclear in the Blue Lion and Golden Deer routes.

However, in the Crimson Flower route, it is confirmed that Jeritza is indeed the Death Knight. While that may or may not have been expected, the real shock comes from the fact that he is also Mercedes’ younger half-brother, Emile.

5 Jeralt’s Age

As the father of the young professor, Byleth, Jerald looks to be middle-aged. However, his long relationships with Rhea and Alois hint that he might be a lot older than he looks.

Alois, one of the Knights of Seiros, eventually tells Byleth that Jerald himself said he was well over a hundred years old. This extreme longevity is due to the Crest-infused blood given to him by Rhea after he protected her.

4 Edelgard’s Reasoning

After Edelgard was revealed to be the Flame Emperor, it was easy to start painting her as a cruel and evil villain, especially if the Blue Lion and Golden Deer routes were played before the Black Eagles.

If players have the opportunity to get to know Edelgard, they will learn of her past and gain a better understanding of why she chooses to wage war against the Church. Because Edelgard found herself at the center of Crest experimentation, she came to hate Crests and the Church who always held Crests in such high regard.

3 Rhea’s Intentions

Rhea is first introduced as the warm-welcoming Archbishop of Garreg Mach Monastery. But like other characters, her true identity and intentions are a mystery.

From the beginning, it’s been apparent that Rhea has a striking resemblance to Saint Seiros, but as it turns out, she’s actually Seiros herself. While hiding this identity, she also secretly sought to revive her mother by implanting the Crest of Flames into Byleth.

2 Sothis’ Role

As the mysterious girl within Byleth, Sothis’ existence and role come with many questions. In fact, neither Byleth or Sothis were initially aware of how or why they were connected.

In a shocking turn of events, Sothis was both the actual Goddess and mother of Rhea. As such a powerful being, her Crest had been implanted into the likes of Nemesis, Byleth, and Edelgard.

1 Byleth’s Origin

Rather than simply being the child of Jeralt, there are many complexities to Byleth’s odd origin that even Jeralt himself was not fully aware of.

Because Byleth was born without a heartbeat, Rhea implanted Sothis’ Crest Stone into the baby at the cost of the mother’s life. That caused Jeralt to become suspicious of Rhea and fake Byleth’s death in order to protect them from whatever the Archbishop might have been planning.
