Recruiting units has been a key part of the Fire Emblem series for a long time, but Three Houses handles recruitment in a new way. Although Byleth can teach only one of three houses at a time, you can still recruit students and other units into your class by catering to their interests.

Some characters will ask to join Byleth’s class if their Support Level is high enough, while others might wait until their professor can impress them with their combat skills or level. Regardless of how stubborn some characters might be, there are plenty of tips and tricks to make recruitment a breeze.

10 New Game+

Recruiting all possible units before the time-skip can be difficult when playing through the game for the first time due to limitations and time constraints. However, if you have completed the game at least once, you can take advantage of what the New Game+ feature has to offer.

By spending renown in New Game+, the player can instantly unlock the highest Professor Rank to maximize the number of activities that can be done with recruitable units with exploring. In addition, they can unlock Support Levels without the hassle of pleasing students with the right gifts or conversations.

9 Talk To Everyone When Exploring

It may sound tedious, but it can be helpful to talk to every recruitable character while exploring the monastery at least once a month.

By talking to the characters, you will not only learn more about their individual interests and backgrounds but also slowly increase your Support Level if you respond correctly to their conversation prompts. The more you know a character, the easier it will be to win them over.

8 Gifts & Lost Items

Throughout the monastery, there are always random items scattered across the map. Many of these items can be given to recruitable units as either gifts or lost items.

Each character has their own set of lost items and gifts that they love or hate, and if they receive something they appreciate, their Support Level will increase. Additional gifts such as flowers can be grown in the garden and given in bulk to characters who need an extra boost in their Support.

7 Faculty Training

Other than raising Support Levels, raising Byleth’s combat skills such as Swordsmanship or Faith can help to impress certain students. The best way to level-up Byleth’s skills is through Faculty Training.

With fellow professors, the Knights of Seiros, and the Archbishop herself hanging around the monastery, there are plenty of folks who are willing to help Byleth become a well-rounded combatant whom all the students can admire.

6 Stat-Boosting Items

Similar to skill levels, having high stats such as Dexterity and Strength also affects recruitment. Whether students want Byleth to be strong, nimble, or charming, there is a very simple way to increase those desirable stats.

Acquired from battles, gardening, or shops, items like the Speed Carrot and Black Pearl can permanently increase any unit’s stats. If they are used on Byleth, they will not only become a beast on the battlefield but also earn the respect of the students.

5 Choir Practice

Choir Practice is primarily used for leveling up the Faith skill of Byleth along with two of their students. However, singing together in the church can also bring the three characters much closer.

Although characters outside of your class cannot benefit from the Faith increase, certain characters such as Annette and Lysithea will appreciate a higher Faith level from Byleth anyway, which makes Choir Practice a win-win situation.

4 Meals

For as simple as it sounds, people naturally bond over food. In fact, units can practically be bribed to join Byleth’s class with delicious meals.

In the Dining Hall, the player can either share a meal with two units at a time, or they can cook a meal with one. Either way, the player will increase their Support Level with the power of food.

3 Tea Time

In addition to eating meals with your favorite units, you can also invite them to have tea. Believe it or not, tea time is one of the best ways to increase the Support Level with a recruitable unit. However, you must know the character pretty well in order to make the most of the tea.

During tea time, the player will be given several conversational prompts and must pick the one that the guest will enjoy most. For every correct response, the character’s Support Level will increase. If not, tea time will end on a sour note.

2 Mission Assistance

Once a month, the player can invite one student from another class to join them on all of the missions for that month.

During that time, it is crucial to keep that unit close to Byleth on the battlefield so that they can quickly raise their Support Level. Though the assisting student cannot gain any experience, Support can be built in this way without having to spend money, resources, or activity points.

1 Adjutant

With the Mission Assistance, it might be difficult to keep the assisting student near Byleth at all times depending on the circumstances of the battle. To make things easier, that student can be assigned as Byleth’s Adjutant.

Rather than fighting on their own, the Adjutant will simply aid Byleth with additional offensive, defense, or healing. Because the Adjutant automatically moves with Byleth, there will be opportunities to raise their Support in a single battle.
