“YOU’RE IRRELEVANT!” You hear, screamed across the battlefield. Of course, it is coming from Lysithea. Lysithea Von Ordelia. Despite her small size, Lysithea is one of the most powerful and feisty characters in all of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and many even consider her the best student in the game. There’s certainly an argument to make for it. Here are five reasons why that is exactly right, and five reasons why she’s not the best.
10 Best: Her Power
Lysithea is an absolute beast of a unit, there’s simply no arguing it. She’s one of the strongest mages in the game, and can make quick work out of just about anyone that she comes across, no questions asked. She’s also got fantastic utility with spells like Warp. While her power makes her a force to be reckoned with, there is a small drawback.
9 Not The Best: Her Fragility
Lysithea is a fragile unit. She’s going to take a huge amount of damage whenever she doesn’t wipe out her enemies first. Thus, if you’re going to keep Lysithea on the front lines, you have to figure out how to utilize her strengths while keeping a healer nearby or keeping her guarded with your other units. She just requires a bit of extra strategy.
8 Best: Death Knight Melter
The Death Knight is one of the strongest enemies in the game, but he matters not to this small child.
While the Death Knight can take out virtually any unit that even tries to engage him with ease, Lysithea is usually able to one-shot him, or take him out with a small amount of help from your other units. If you’re worried about upcoming Death Knight battles, having Lysithea on your team can make things much easier.
7 Not The Best: Not Many Options
While we’ve mentioned that Lysithea is fantastic with what she does, there’s not much that you’re going to be able to do with her if it doesn’t involve putting her in the same role that she’s used to. Lysithea really has to stay a mage, and she isn’t going to have much luck in other classes, despite many other students being able to fill many different niches with ease.
6 Best: Her Personality
Lysithea’s backstory is a very sad one, which explains a lot of her quirks once begin to learn what happened to her. With that in mind, it’s noble how hard Lysithea works to help her house and the world while she still has the time. Despite being dealt a horrible hand of cards, Lysithea makes the best of her situation in every way she can.
5 Not The Best: Her Attitude
Despite this, Lysithea can be a bit rude at times, and her early supports with Ignatz really highlight this. She doesn’t have time for nonsense, sure, but she can go a bit overboard with her curtness at times. She gets mean pretty quickly. It’s not as endearing as her other qualities are.
4 Best: Her Design
One area that Lysithea really excels in is her design. Her design doesn’t change all that much between the beginning of the game and timeskip, save for a fantastic new purple outfit that really helps her pop, and helps to highlight how mature she’s become.
Some students either start off rough or get a little iffy after the timeskip (or they’re horrible throughout, Lorenz), but Lysithea stays consistent the whole game.
3 Not The Best: How Little We Get To Her Her Crit Lines
Okay… is this really a downside? No… but it is a shame that Lysithea really doesn’t have a kit that allows her to get critical hits very often, as she’s just as aggressive with her burns as she is with her actual damage output. This line of dialogue right here is easily the best in all of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and that is an indisputable fact. She could take the Death Knight on with her sass alone. Iconic.
2 Best: Her Endings
While it seems as if Lysithea is always going to lose in the end due to her lifespan being shortened because of her two crests, this actually isn’t always the case. In some of her endings, it seems as if there might be a cure that can save her. Even in the endings where she doesn’t find a cure, she still gets a happy ending, which she very much so deserves.
1 Not The Best: Well Actually…
Come on. Be realistic. Lysithea is the best character in all of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Her personality, what she has to go through, her great design, her endless power, there simply isn’t an argument to make that Lysithea isn’t the best character in all of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Lysithea deserves all of the love in the world. If you aren’t playing through the Golden Deer route, recruit Lysithea. If you are playing through Golden Deer, sit back and relax with your queen Lysithea Von Ordelia.
