In addition to being the classic turn-based strategy game that the franchise is known for, Fire Emblem: Three Houses puts a strong emphasis on the storyline and the characters who make it all happen. The player’s character, Byleth, might not have the biggest personality or most impactful dialogue as someone who is designed to be silent, but that’s okay. There are plenty of other big personalities to fill the void.
With a wide range of students, church members, and veteran knights, each character comes with their own unique way of how they act and view the world. Similar to the astrological zodiac signs, each animal of the Chinese zodiac can be represented by one of the many great characters of Three Houses.
12 Year Of The Rat: Claude
Those who are born in the year of the rat are witty, sharp, and they know how to get what they want. If necessary, they won’t hesitate to use their charm to their advantage.
The Golden Deer’s house leader, Claude, is the perfect blend of sharp and charming. While he knows how to use his wits to navigate through any tough battle situation, he’s also shameless about sitting back and letting his charm do all the persuading.
11 Year Of The Ox: Edelgard
The trait most commonly associated with the ox is stubbornness. Despite its negative connotation, it means that they possess a strong and unwavering heart. Once they have their heart set on a goal, they will not stop until they achieve it.
Most characters in Three Houses have their own dreams to fulfill, but perhaps no one’s goal is big as Edelgard’s. Edelgard hopes that after the war, she can help abolish the nobility and system of Crests that the church has always held in high regard. In order to achieve this goal, the Black Eagles’ leader isn’t afraid to put everything on the line.
10 Year Of The Tiger: Ferdinand
Tigers are fierce and competitive by nature. Their confidence in their skill gives them an edge over their rivals and competitors.
Ferdinand has always seen his Black Eagle classmate, Edelgard, as his rival in everything they do. Whether it’s defeating more beasts or eating the quickest, Ferdinand not only makes everything a competition but also has confidence in his victory.
9 Year Of The Rabbit: Flayn
Compassion and sincerity are traits that best define those who are born in the year of the rabbit. Their kindhearted souls are usually what makes them so popular and well-liked.
Flayn is one of the few characters who doesn’t seem to have a bad bone in her body. She tends to keep an optimistic outlook on life while sending good vibes to all of her friends and allies.
8 Year Of The Dragon: Leonie
Dragons carry a lot of enthusiasm with them and pour their hearts into everything that they do. In doing so, they have a way of inspiring and motivating others for the better.
Leonie might not have a Crest to give her a boost in battle, but that doesn’t stop her from training with the utmost enthusiasm to stay on par or even ahead of her classmates. Her friendly rivalry with the player no doubt motivates them to do their best as well.
7 Year Of The Snake: Linhardt
Snakes may be commonly associated with sneaky behavior, but that’s not necessarily the case. Those born in the year of the snake are quite wise and generous individuals who may prefer to keep to themselves.
With a love for cat naps, Linhardt is someone who generally does his own thing and keeps to himself. However, many of his conversations with his classmates reveal that he’s not only very intelligent but also willing to lend a hand to his friends.
6 Year Of The Horse: Lysithea
Horses are always on their feet and chasing after their desires at top speeds. Their impatience helps them stay on track and never slow down.
Someone who always seems to be in a rush is Lysithea. Despite being the youngest student at the Officers Academy, she feels the need to get ahead of her studies and achieve her goals as soon as possible because she literally doesn’t have time to wait around.
5 Year Of The Sheep: Mercedes
As gentle and sweet beings, sheep naturally gravitate toward peaceful environments and will do everything in their power to maintain that peace.
Mercedes is the loving older sister figure of Three Houses. When any of her friends or allies are hurt or down, she will always be there to help them out and lift their spirits.
4 Year Of The Monkey: Caspar
Monkeys have a fun vibe to them and a great sense of humor. They are also quite active and know how to move quickly.
Caspar embodies both the humor and energetic nature of the monkey. He’s perhaps the only one capable of cracking a joke in the presence of the Death Knight, and he always seems to be fired up and ready to jump right into battle.
3 Year Of The Rooster: Felix
The rooster is one of the most hardworking signs of the Chinese Zodiac. Because they put all their effort into their work, they have a tendency to leave little time for social interactions.
Likewise, Felix spends the majority of his free time practicing his swordsmanship, and rarely has time to chat. When approached by peers who want to chat, he will usually ask them to pick up their swords and fight him.
2 Year Of The Dog: Raphael
Those who are born in the year of the dog are loving, honest, and good people at heart. Their strongest trait is, of course, their loyalty to the people they are closest to.
The muscle man of the monastery, Raphael, possesses a heart that is bigger than his build. Though he gets along with all of his peers, he is exceptionally close with Ignatz. Even after finding out that Ignatz’s parents were loosely involved in the death of his own parents, Raphael understood the circumstances and remained loyal to his friend.
1 Year Of The Boar: Dimitri
Boars tend to be perfectionists who have an appreciation for luxury goods that stem from hard work.
This means that Felix’s “Boar Prince” nickname for Dimitri has another meaning beyond his savage ways on the battlefield. Although Dimitri is not one to flaunt his royal status, he does have an eye for luxury goods such as the legendary Sword of Zoltan that Felix found. Unfortunately, Felix refused to even let the Boar Prince touch it.
