For many, a racing game is only as strong as the roster of vehicles that it sports. While it may not hold the crown in terms of quantity, the Forza franchise has held its own throughout the years. This looks to be no different with the upcoming release of Forza Horizon 2 which promises to carry a final total of over 200 cars. Lifting up the hood, gamers can officially get a look at the first 100 cars that will comprise that hefty roster.
Rather than simply reusing and updating the car models seen in previous titles, Forza Horizon 2 will see all of its cars built from scratch. With this latest racing title making use of the power of the Xbox One hardware to implement dynamic weather and an open world to explore, the cars will remain the primary focus.
Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios’ latest will feature many familiar “faces” but will also sport a number of rides that will be making their first series appearance. The first five cars to fall into this category will be the 1973 Renault Alpine A110 1600S, 2009 Vauxhall Corsa VXR, 1945 Jeep Willys MB, 1963 Volkswagen Type 2 De Luxe, and 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE. Including these newcomers, the following list highlights the first 100 cars that will populate the game’s car list - still under half of its final roster:
For the car lovers out there, this list is sure to inspire a great amount of excitement. 100 cars is impressive on its own, but to think that it will swell to over double that number is promising considering the game will not have microstransactions at launch. This, coupled with the fact that the cars will have working windshield wipers, headlights and interior lights as well as dynamic dirt-mapping means that car lovers will be in for quite a treat.

One of the most entertaining aspects of Forza 5 was playing around with the wide variety of different cars available. From sleek supercars to tiny sedans, there was a ride for every sensibility. It’s evident that that feeling will be just as present in the series’ newest addition. While there will be obvious choices like the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán that will grace the game’s cover, a jeep for offroading and a Volkswagen van for riding in style should keep the gameplay fresh as gamers explore the open world landscape of southern Europe.
Releasing this fall, it’s a fair bet that Forza Horizon 2’s more arcadey gameplay will appeal to a broader audience than last year’s Forza 5. With the Need For Speed franchise holding off until 2015, the scant racing landscape will no doubt embrace another high-profile release. While the short amount of time between games might put off some gamers, it’s hard to deny the excitement that comes with much-requested features like dynamic weather making their next-gen Forza premier.
Which of the announced cars are you most excited to get into the driver’s seat of? Which car would you most like to see included in the final release?
Forza Horizon 2 is set to launch on September 30, 2014 for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
