Tom Holland, cast as a young Nathan Drake in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of Uncharted, has posted the first picture from the set of the film. The film has been in various stages of pre-production for years, with many changes in cast and crew occurring, but this image seems to confirm that the project is finally coming to life.
After the latest setback in this film’s troubled development cycle, Spider-Man star Tom Holland has posted the first image from the set. The image, which Holland simply captioned with “Day one: #uncharted”, is of a black chair labeled “NATE” in bold red letters.
Tom Holland has spoken about the film adaptation of the popular game series prior to posting the image, stating, “there was definitely a lot of inspiration that came from the games, but it’s a very young, fresh take on the character because, obviously, we didn’t get to meet him all that much when he was younger, but it’s a pretty awesome movie, and it’s global. We travel the world, we see some amazing places, and Mark Wahlberg and I are going to have a great summer together.”
Tom Holland, as previously mentioned, is cast as a young Nathan Drake, with Mark Wahlberg set to play his partner and mentor figure Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Other key talent includes Tati Gabrielle as Elena Fisher, Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazer, and Ruben Fleischer to direct. Antonio Banderas has also been cast, but his role remains unnamed at the moment. The film still has a summer release date, set for July 16th, 2021.
While this image is not the most exciting set photo that could be released, considering the troubled history this film adaptation has had, just having proof that production is actually moving forward is enough to get fans’ attention. The caption of “day one” does imply that the film still has a long way to go before completion, however.
After going through six previous directors – Seth Gordon, Neil Burger, David O. Russell, Shawn Levy, Dan Trachtenberg and Travis Knight – the film finally seems to have stuck with Venom and Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. Hopefully he will be the one to finally take this adaptation to the finish line.
