The 2020 Overwatch League season has almost come to an end. The final four teams are set to face off at the beginning of October to determine who will hoist the trophy as the best team this year. As the last match to determine the final team was being played, the 2020 Overwatch League MVP was announced. Shanghai Dragons’ Byung-sun “Fleta” Kim secured the honor as he looks to lead the Dragons to their first OWL Grand Finals championship.

Fleta had the best season of his already impressive career. He helped lead the Shanghai Dragons to a league best 27-2 record as they are the team to beat of the final four teams that include Seoul Dynasty, San Francisco Shock and Philadelphia Fusion. The Dragons also secured victories in the May Melee tournament and Countdown Cup, joining the Shock as the only teams with two tournament victories each. In a team full of superstar players, it was Fleta’s flexibility that helped propel him to MVP honors.

Fleta’s versatility and top-tier play on a massive hero pool was extremely beneficial for a season full of changing metas due to shifting hero pools throughout. Being able to pick up essentially any hero and perform at an extremely high level helped Fleta stand out from an incredibly talented pool of MVP finalists. The slogan is “Fleta is meta” and this year proved without a doubt that is true. Where previous MVP winners were known for that one hero they dominated with all season, Fleta is know for every hero he played throughout 2020 and still dominated with.

Fleta and the Shanghai Dragons face their toughest task yet heading into the final four bracket at the beginning of October. After years of playing with underperforming teams, Fleta finally has the right roster around him to bring home a coveted championship. It would be the perfect way to top an MVP season and the final piece of the Shanghai Dragons incredible turnaround as an organization. The Dragons face off against Philadelphia in their first match of the double elimination bracket.
