Esports team FlyQuest is setting out to make Earth a greener place this year while they duke it out with other teams in both the LCS and Academy brackets of competitive League of Legends, donating to plant a tree for every kill and every victory in-game with their TreeQuest initiative. This season’s tree total came out to 5,058 between LCS and Academy, as showcased in this tweet from FlyQuest’s official Twitter account.
FlyQuest began their journey to fill the land with trees as part of their 2020 Go Green Initiative, committing to working with the OneTreePlanted Organization to get TreeQuest rolling. During this year’s Spring Split, they donated one tree for every kill an FQ player scored, 100 trees for every game FQ won, and 10 trees for every Ocean Drake fought during any LCS or Academy match - even the ones FQ wasn’t playing in. According to their website, that’s because it’s their way of “showing gratitude for the players working hard to make Summoner’s Rift a greener place”.
They’ve been leaning into their eco-friendly goals this year, releasing a cool plant-themed jersey and hinting at big plans for Earth Day in the TreeQuest announcement page of their official website.
TreeQuest didn’t stop there, though. Even though the Spring Split has ended, FlyQuest launched Super TreeQuest for the Spring Playoffs, doubling the tree value of each of their tracked kills, drakes, and wins, and committing to plant a whopping 10,000 trees should they win the finals.
As of the time writing this, FlyQuest has made it into the finals to face off against Cloud9 after pulling out of the loser’s bracket (and getting revenge against EvilGeniuses in doing so) and are vying for the chance to plant that sweet, sweet forest they promised.
With their promised double points, FlyQuest has managed to up the tree counter to over 8,000 during the playoffs - and with the final match, 10k more trees are on the table if FQ can pull off a victory. Win or lose, all these previously-earned trees are still going to be planted, and that’s more than worth celebrating.
…That said, we don’t see Cloud9 offering to plant an entire forest’s worth of trees if they win.
