At Gamescom 2016, Ubisoft reveals the twelve different classes between the three factions of For Honor along with the ability for players to completely customize each one.
It has been an eventful week for Ubisoft at Gamescom 2016, as the company revealed a ton of new information and trailers for many of its upcoming games like Watch_Dogs 2, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, and Ghost Recon Wildlands. One of the more intriguing early 2017 titles is For Honor, a game that sees three different warrior factions go head to head to head, placing a greater focus on brutal melee combat. While E3 2016 revealed a dedicated single player campaign, Gamescom has pulled the curtain back even more on the multiplayer side of the game.
Each of the three factions within For Honor, Knights, Vikings, and Samurai, have four different playable champions featuring unique weapons, fighting styles, and advantages that fit neatly into distinct class types. Vanguards are the jack of all trade types, balanced and well rounded on offense and defense. Assassins are offensive juggernauts, able to move and strike quicker than the other heroes, though that advantage is balanced by their lower defensive capabilities. Heavies may move the slowest, but their advantage lies with how powerful and well-defended they are. Finally, the Hybrids are the most complex champions, borrowing characteristics from the other three units, though trickier to use effectively.
Interestingly enough, these class divisions go a little bit deeper as each class type plays slightly differently from its other faction equivalent. For example, the Samurai Vanguard, known as Kensei, wields a longer Nodachi sword and is slightly faster than the plate mail wearing Knight Vanguard Warden or the slower Axe-wielding Viking Raider. These differences promise to be felt significantly in multiplayer as Ubisoft has revealed that there won’t be any faction restrictions, meaning that players can select a champion from any faction regardless of what their teammates select.
Lastly, while each of the 12 classes features distinctive looks to help distinguish them on the battlefield, players can further customize them in a variety of ways. Players can change everything from color, gender, weapon types, and armor. New customization items can be unlocked through character progression and through a loot system that takes place at the end of matches.
As previously revealed earlier in the week, For Honor is launching with five multiplayer modes including Dominion, a 4v4 objective based mode where two teams of four work together to capture and hold various points while participating in a full scale invasion against NPC grunts and the other team. Players can also select a team deathmatch style mode, 2v2, elimination, and a 1v1 duel to the death multiplayer playlist.
