The Atlanta Reign suffered a few roster casualties in the past week or so after flex-support player Steven “Kodak” Rosenberger retired to continue with Atlanta in a coaching position while hitscan specialist Andrej “babybay” Francisty retired from professional Overwatch entirely. To fill in some of the gaps, the Reign announced they have added former ATL Academy player Garrett “Saucy” Roland to the roster.

Saucy previously played for ATL Academy, the Reign’s old academy team, but found himself out of Contenders earlier this year when ATL Academy opted out of the remainder of Overwatch Contenders 2020. Saucy was on the squad when ATL Academy made an amazing run during The Gauntlet, Overwatch Contenders’ premiere tournament of 2019. Though they didn’t hoist the trophy, the Atlanta Reign called a handful of players from the squad up for 2020. Before they disbanded, ATL Academy struggled at the beginning of the 2020 season.

Saucy is another hitscan player for the Atlanta Reign after babybay’s exit about a week ago. He recently turned 18 at the beginning of the month and now has the chance to prove himself in the biggest scene for professional Overwatch. If anything, he adds a bit more depth to Atlanta’s DPS line.

The Atlanta Reign’s 2020 campaign has been largely disappointing given the potential of the roster. They tend to play up and down and have stayed consistently in the middle of the pack all season. Losing a key player like babybay must hurt the team both in game and out, but there is still plenty of talent in the DPS position. It’s unclear how much playtime Saucy will actually see for the Reign, but there is always a chance players can break out when given the opportunity.
