Wizards of the Coast subsidiary Tuque Games has found a new Vice President and General Manager in former Ubisoft head Dominic Guay. The Montreal-based video game developer has hired Guay in order to support the studio’s growth and further unlock the potential of Wizard of the Coast’s leadership in fantasy and digital gaming.
Before joining Tuque Games, Guay held several senior positions at Ubisoft Montreal. During his time there, he headed the creation of the successful Watch Dogs series and contributed to the development of several hit franchises for the studio including Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. Now, amid rumors that Ubisoft will be shifting focus from triple-A titles, Guay is taking expertise elsewhere.
In a statement regarding his new position within Tuque, Guay had this to say:
“I am enthusiastic at the opportunity to join Wizards of the Coast and help Tuque Games take the next step as a world class developer. Tuque has a great start and is destined to craft groundbreaking AAA games. Wizard of the Coast understands building world and communities of players. It is equally committed to affording Tuque the creative freedom and the support it needs to succeed.”
He went on to say that he hoped to foster a workplace where game developers can “seek autonomy and ownership of their work” and gain the freedom to explore fantasy game worlds. He hopes to have the opportunity to allow developers the chance to build a “fun, respectful, and honest studio culture mixed with a passion for making high quality experiences for gamers worldwide.”
Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc, is an award-winning developer and publisher of tabletop and digital games. Most notably, it is the developer of Dungeons & Dragons. Back in 2019, Wizards of the Coast acquired Tuque Games, an independent development studio based out of Montreal. The studio released its first title, Livelock, back in 2016 and is currently working away on co-op action RPG Dark Alliance, which is set in the Forgotten Realms and based on the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.
Wizards of the Coast has been a big earner for Hasbro since the pandemic began and tabletop games became even more popular amongst socially-distanced and quarantined friends. Now, it looks like it hoping to replicate that success in the video game industry.
