Fortnite is one of the biggest games ever created. What started out as a hybrid between a tower defense game, Minecraft, and a first-person shooter quickly became a massive craze that has taken the world by storm. The moment Epic Games decided to use their assets to create Fortnite Battle Royale, the genre changed from there and PUBG was no longer on top. One of the reasons Fortnite became insanely popular is that it’s free.
If you want to play the game and have a console that can run it, then there’s nothing stopping you from downloading and throwing yourself off the Battle Bus and into the fray. That said, Epic Games still has to make money, so they introduced microtransactions in the form of cosmetic items for your character. These cosmetics can range from affecting your glider to changing your pickaxe, but the ones that most people talk about are the outfits. Without spending a few dollars, you’ll be stuck with the default costume for quite some time. Because of this, most people fork over the cash and get themselves a nice costume. However, there are some costumes that are better than others.
With each season, new outfits are introduced that are on-demand for the fanbase. Some outfits take off and are immediately desired by the rest of the community and others take a while to get off the shelves. Get ready to go through your Fortnite wardrobe as we go through 15 outfits that make players look like total bosses and 15 that make them look like major noobs.
30 Boss: Vertex
Vertex is the outfit you get when you cross futuristic robots with the world of something akin to Mad Max. This suit makes your character look like a cyborg that you definitely don’t want to mess with.
Complete with the copper color and tiny yellow eyes, there’s a lot to love with the design.
Making the suit even better is that it comes with a backpack, glider, and pick that go a long way. Get those 2000 V-Bucks ready to spend.
29 Noob: Recon Expert
If you think you’re ready to do some damage in Fortnite and get yourself that’s going to reflect your newfound ferocity, the Recon Expert skin is certainly not the way to go. Having a militaristic design with a shirt that you’d find at a regular clothing store is an odd choice. Furthermore, the outfit seems disproportionate, making it even weirder to look at. It’s a rare skin, costing 1200 V-Bucks. Considering there are other choices for the same if not more money, you’d be better off skipping it.
28 Boss: Sparkle Specialist
Disco was a popular theme that came to Fortnite, and it introduced some skins along the way as well. One of the best ones was the Sparkle Specialist skin, which turned your character into a military shooter with some extra stuff added on top. Among a few start tattoos and some glitter around the face, the Sparkle Specialist skin allows your player to wear a shiny vest as well as have some blue hair. It’s not over-the-top, but that’s why we love it so much.
27 Noob: Carbide
This might come as a controversial choice to a lot of you, but the Carbide skin isn’t all that great. Considering how heavily it was promoted, it’s not exactly a “rare” outfit as of right now. We do like the concept of having something similar to Tron, but the execution is severely lacking.
The outfit would be ten times better if the helmet closed over the mouth.
Instead, it’s left open, making the character look fairly silly. Considering that it was easy to get for those who purchased the Battle Pass during season 4, it doesn’t make players any more threatening.
26 Boss: Black Knight
Season 2 of Fortnite had one of the best rewards for those who managed to get up to level 70: the Black Knight skin. This design turns your character into a dreaded knight of yore (and may possibly be a reference to Monty Python).
Because of the insane requirements to getting this skin and the fact that it’s not available anymore, seeing someone with it instantly tells you that they know what they’re doing and they’ll probably kill you before you even know what happened.
25 Noob: Rapscallion
The Scoundrel outfit is pretty great. It has a lot of personality, giving the player character a mustache to really sell the look. Its female equivalent, the Rapscallion, wasn’t given the same level of attention though.
The Rapscallion, at its core, just looks like a girl dressing as a thief for Halloween.
Even with the added accessories, it’s not a costume that fully embraces its look. Because of this, those who wear it are just pushed to the side in favor of characters with much more impressive outfits.
24 Boss: Leviathan
If you ever imagined what it would be like for aliens to join Fortnite, you can have your answer with the Leviathan skin. This outfit turns your character into a mutant fish that is controlling a full-body space suit.
This is another legendary outfit, so you’ll have to stalk the shop to wait for it to pop back in rotation.
If you’re into some of the more unique skins, you definitely want this one in your closet. Just have 2000 V-Bucks on hand.
23 Noob: Bunny Brawler
Fortnite’s easter event allowed players to purchase the Bunny Brawler skin. It would give their character a rabbit onesie, complete with painted-whiskers and bunny slippers. It was every bit as ridiculous as its name suggested. The unfortunate part is that the Bunny Brawler is just okay. In the midst of other suits that turn characters into mysterious ravens and mutant alien fish, this just seems so basic in comparison. The Bunny Brawler isn’t a skin that makes players look like bosses… it just makes them seem like noobs.
22 Boss: Raven
The Raven outfit is easily one of the most mysterious cosmetics in the entire game. Appropriately part of the “Nevermore” set, it turns your character into a figure that remains wrapped in a hood, the only thing visibly are his two piercing eyes.
There are also subtle touches of feathers that complete the look.
If you want this skin, it’s another instance where you’ll have to keep tabs on the shop. It’s a legendary outfit, so it comes in and out of rotation. Be prepared if it shows its face again.
21 Noob: Tomatohead
There are a lot of feelings we have about this skin. It doesn’t necessarily make the wearer look more like a noob, but it certainly doesn’t make them look like a boss. The biggest problem we have is that the head part of the “Tomatohead” outfit is downright creepy, with weird eyes and a strange mouth. Tomato Town isn’t the best place in Fortnite, and neither is this outfit. If Epic’s goal was to make sure that it terrified players in their dreams, then they definitely succeeded.
20 Boss: Sky Stalker
If you want to bring a creepiness factor to Fortnite, then look no further than the Sky Stalker skin. This outfit puts your character in a long trench coat with a green gas mask that is reminiscent of World War II.
It also comes with a backpack that’s essentially a big oxygen tank.
If you want to know who to avoid in the game, someone using the Sky Stalker outfit would be a great place to start. People who wear it want nothing more than to watch you perish.
19 Noob: Recon Scout
The Recon Scout is on this list for the same reason a few others are: it looks similar to the default skin in both design and color. It doesn’t do enough to change up the appearance to make you appear any less like a noob.
It does have the helmet with goggles, so that’s a nice touch.
Otherwise, it’s a muddy outfit that will easily get buried among the outfits that are much more impressive. It’s also a rare outfit, meaning that it’ll set you back 1200 V-Bucks that you could easily save for something a bit cooler.
18 Boss: Raptor
There’s a certain simplicity with the Raptor skin that isn’t present with other outfits in the game. It turns your character into an air force test pilot, complete with the thick jacket and yellow ski mask. If a player is wearing this skin, there’s a sense of skill that comes with it. However, it’s a fairly rare skin to come across, not appearing in rotation often. If you want it, you’ll definitely have to be ready with the cash. Keep checking the Featured section.
17 Noob: Dazzle
There are a few skins that are references to locations in Fortnite, but they’re not all great. Case in point: the Dazzle outfit. This is based on the Dominator of Dusty Depot, but it’s not all that impressive.
It gives your character an orange vest with a lightning bolt on it as well as a blue headband.
There are also some additional markings on the pants. As far as rare skins go, it’s probably one of the better ones, but that’s not saying a whole lot. Players who wear it would still look like noobs.
16 Boss: Battle Hound
If you’re ready to go into the Battle Royale with a bit more style, then the Battle Hound skin might be for you. This outfit gives your character a gold outfit with a golden dog head (with emerald eyes) to wear. It almost looks like a dragon with that design. People who wear this skin would probably be bold and appear more threatening than the average Fortnite player. It even comes with a few extra accessories in its set that make it that much more of a complete package. Good luck trying to get it, though.
15 Noob: Tower Recon Specialist
You can tell a novice Fortnite player from a more experienced one mostly by the outfits they use. If someone is walking around in an Omega skin, then you know that they’re good.
If someone is running with the Tower Recon Specialist outfit, then they’re probably new to the game.
The Tower Recon Specialist is so close to the default skin that it’s almost indistinguishable. Why anyone would actively choose a skin that’s so bland is beyond us. It’s like painting a target on yourself.
14 Boss: The Reaper
There are a lot of interesting references in Fortnite, but one of the best ones has to come in the form of the Reaper skin. You’ll notice that it turns the character into a sharp-dressed man with some rad facial hair.
This is an overt reference to John Wick from the critically-acclaimed action movies of the same name.
Needless to say, anyone trying to survive in a 100-man free-for-all is certainly going to hedge when they go up against the fabled John Wick.
13 Noob: Blue Team Leader
If you’re a Fortnite player and you use a PlayStation 4, first we would like to apologize for the lack of cross-platform. Secondly, at least you get an exclusive skin when you link your Epic Games account in the form of the Blue Team Leader skin. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to write home about with this outfit other than it gives you a blue hat and a white tank with a blue stripe. Because it’s so easy to get for most players, there isn’t a lot of reason to continuously use it. It’s like a default skin exclusive to PS4 users.
12 Boss: Red Knight
If you thought that the Black Knight costume was cool, wait until you see the Red Knight costume. Also introduced in season 2, this one is actually still obtainable, though very hard to find. It was last spotted in February of this year. Black and red always go great together, and that’s why this design still remains one of the game’s best. Just keep stalking the shop until you see it in rotation, then be prepared to fork over some cash to give your player a medieval boost.
11 Noob: Brite Gunner
There are a lot of ridiculous costumes in Fortnite: some are much more comical and tasteful, others are nonsensical and weird. Brite Gunner definitely falls into the latter category. It costs 1500 V-Bucks, but you’re only getting some guy in a blue suit with a rainbow on the torso. It doesn’t stand out when you compare it to other epic and legendary skins in the game, so it’s a shame. It does come with some cool accessories, but the outfit itself won’t make you look much more threatening.
