Fortnite Season 6 has finally arrived, and it has brought about a wide range of fresh changes to the wildly popular multiplayer sandbox survival shooter, including new cosmetics, in-game content, tweaks to the gameplay, and more. Another improvement Epic Games has brought to the title with Update v6.0 is custom controller bindings, finally letting players lay out their preferred button mapping for both building and combat.
With the images found below, Fortnite fans who may be unfamiliar with the concept of custom controller bindings can get a better idea of what to expect when they swap out different button commands for others. Should players wish to start over with a clean slate while customizing their button layout, Epic has also provided a way to revert back to “Old School” default controls, and provides a few preset mappings that suit certain play styles, such as “Quick Builder”, “Combat Pro”, and “Builder Pro”.
On top of the new custom controller bindings in Fortnite, it looks as if Epic also intends to continue refining the controller customization features, with separate sensitivity for both building and combat currently in the works. As it so happens, the developer has even teased that sensitivity will eventually be able to be so precise that one can set it by decimal placements instead of having to round up or down to the nearest number.
Epic Games’ inclusion of custom controller bindings should please plenty of Fortnite fans as they head into Season 6, as it ought to give them a better chance to play the game exactly how they want. What’s more is that providing the freedom to set one’s own button mapping could help some players become much more proficient at both building and combat in the long run. After all, they can now experiment with new layouts that have the potential to better suit their abilities.
Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. An Android beta is currently underway.
