Just in case Fortnite Battle Royale players were already beginning to get bored following last week’s new weapon, Epic Games has a new toy for fans to play with: a sticky grenade named the Clinger Grenade.

With the Guided Missile Launcher, Port-a-Fort, Light Machine Gun, and now the Clinger all coming out in the past month, it’d be easy to lose track of all the new weapons Epic Games is piling into its battle royale phenomenon. The last few weapons have been added almost weekly, marking an increase to what was already considered a fast rate of content updates.

Clinger Grenades, according to the V3.6 patch notes released earlier today, will be found in Floor Loot, Supply Drops, Llamas, and Treasure Chests. In accordance with their name, Clinger grenades can stick to any surface they are thrown against. Most interesting of all, however, is their ability to stick to other players - something which will undoubtedly lead to a multitude of entertaining clips, much like when popular streamer Ninja got a kill with the Port-a-Fort shortly after its addition into the game.

As with every new weapon, many players are wondering which, if any, older weapon will be placed into the Vault to prevent the loot pool from becoming overcrowded. As the Clinger Grenade falls under the explosive/grenade class of weapons, it’s possible that the Boogie Bomb or Impulse Grenades will be contenders for the chopping block in the future. Also possible is C4, which, though very useful for traps after baiting other players, has generally proven unpopular with the Fortnite community, with most players agreeing that low damage and a small blast radius make the explosive useless in combat situations.

It will be interesting to see whether Clinger grenades follow in the footsteps of Impulse Grenades and become very popular due to their potential for flashy kills in viral clips, or if, like C4, they quickly fall out of favor after players deem them unworthy of a precious inventory slot. The deciding factor of the Clinger grenade’s fate will probably be the damage. According to the patch notes, the grenade will do 100 damage to players and 200 damage to structures, which means that a “stuck” grenade can kill but only if a player does not have a shield or is low on base HP.
