As Fortnite Battle Royale Season 8 kicks off, players are just beginning to acclimate themselves to the bevy of changes being introduced. Among the changes for Fortnite season 8 are new challenges, new skins, and a ping system similar to the one featured in Apex Legends. Though, perhaps less expected is the addition of an island inspired by the rock band Weezer, complete with theme park rides and tracks from the band’s upcoming album.

In a truly bizarre feat of cross-promotion, Fortnite has added “Weezer World” as a featured island to the game’s Creative hub. Adorned with the band’s ‘W’ logo, the Weezer-inspired theme park features a host of activities and references to Weezer’s music, including a jukebox that exclusively plays songs from the popular rock band. Interestingly enough, the jukebox can be heard playing four songs previously unavailable to the public from Weezer’s upcoming The Black Album, giving fans of the band a chance to get an early glimpse of their new music.

For anyone unsure, Fortnite’s Weezer-themed island has the rock band’s full support, with the official Weezer Twitter account posting “Fortnite Weezon 8 live now!” this morning as the update went live. Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo is a vocal fan of Fortnite, recently sharing to Twitter that he had been playing it with his daughter. Cuomo has connected on Twitter with Fortnite Creative Director Donald Muster in the past.

This isn’t the first time Fortnite has collaborated with a musical act. Just recently, Fortnite players were treated to a 10-minute, live, in-game concert featuring the popular DJ and electronic music producer Marshmello. The concert ended up being Fortnite’s biggest event yet, drawing in over 10-million viewers worldwide.

As mentioned previously, one of the changes that came with Fortnite Season 8 is the addition of a ping system to help players better communicate during matches. Naturally, the ping feature is drawing comparisons to what is likely one of Fortnite’s biggest competitors, the rapidly-growing phenomenon Battle Royale phenomenon Apex Legends.
