The water that flooded Fortnite at the end of Season 2 has started to subside, revealing old locations and altering new ones in the process.

Fortnite’s map underwent one of the biggest changes in the game’s history during the transition from Season 2 into Season 3. A wall of water initially summoned by Midas collapsed and left a lot of the map underwater. What is now starting to become clear is that a lot of those changes are not permanent.

A few days ago, the latest update led to Fortnite’s water level subsiding. That has brought about a lot of changes to new Season 3 locations and has also started to reveal old points of interest that were covered in water thanks to Midas. Most notably, Risky Reels has returned, Fortnite’s drive-in cinema. Perhaps a sign that the game will host more movie screenings in the coming weeks and months.

Risky Reels appears to be a favorite POI of Epic’s as it has now survived a flood and the introduction of a whole new island. The cinema isn’t the only place on the map to have been re-revealed by the subsiding water level. Although it is the only one to have been completely uncovered at this early stage, Dirty Docks, The Shark, and Weeping Woods have also started to re-emerge.

The water level dropping appears to have altered existing locations in other ways. The islands around Rickety Rig have mysteriously disappeared, and the area between Sweaty Sands and Holly Hedges has been altered. The lower water level has also made it more difficult for players to get into The Authority. Anyone without a boat or a Choppa will need to do some serious building to get in there now.

A lot of players were hoping that when the waters subsided, Aquaman’s home of Atlantis would be revealed. As of right now, that has not been the case. Data miners have discovered a big empty underwater canyon which they think might eventually play host to the brand new POI. If that’s the plan, then players will have to wait a little longer to see it manifest.
