Battle royale gaming isn’t going away any time soon as both Fortnite and Warzone’s player bases continue to grow.
There have been rumblings recently that Fortnite’s popularity is starting to dwindle. Someone might want to clue Fortnite in on that fact as its numbers tend to tell a different story. More than 12 million players logged in to watch Travis Scott perform his first concert live in-game last month, a record for the game.
That’s not all. Epic’s latest numbers have revealed that there are now 350 million people registered to play Fortnite. That’s a full 100 million more than the last time Epic revealed its registered player numbers. While it’s not clear how many of those registered players are active, that puts Fortnite up there with the likes of Minecraft and even some of the more popular mobile games.
As for battle royale gaming, on the whole, that doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon either. The latest heavy hitter to enter the arena, Call of Duty: Warzone now has 60 million registered players, reports Video Games Chronicle. Every number reported by Infinity Ward is an impressive one, starting with the six million players Warzone managed to reel in during its first 24 hours.
Chances are both of those numbers will continue to increase. Truth be told, Fortnite did seem as if it was struggling towards the end of 2019 and into the beginning of 2020. It brought the game and its players to a new map and then appeared to be at a loss for what to do next, very unlike Epic. That has all changed since then as Fortnite slowly transforms from a battle royale title to an all-encompassing virtual social experience.
As for Warzone, Infinity Ward still has a lot to learn when it comes to trying to please battle royale gamers. The quicker it realizes it can’t please all of the people all of the time, the better. Listen to the fans, but also do what you believe to be best for the future of the game. That will ensure 60 million players will become 100 million before you know it.
