While much of the Fortnite community has a renewed interest in the game following the missile launch this weekend, developer Epic Games is hoping to cash in. This week, Epic announced a new contest that asks players to put their movie-making skills to the test.

Dubbed the Fortnite Blockbuster Contest, this competition is live now and runs until July 11th. During that time players will be able to submit their entries via social media by using the #FortniteBlockbuster hashtag.

As the name implies, the Blockbuster Contest wants players to create a movie using the superhero characters/skins added during Season 4 of Fortnite. Thanks to the new replay system, players can put their own cinematic skills to the test by using clever cinematography or scenery to give their film an epic feeling.

It also helps that Epic was recently able to re-activate the Playground Limited Time Mode, which means players have even more options for creativity at their fingertips. They can build epic structures or set up massive explosions all while telling a story that engages or excites.

In total, there will be 1 winner and 5 finalists for the Fortnite Blockbuster Contest. The runners-up will receive 10,000 V-Bucks to spend on cosmetics, while the winner will receive 25,000 V-Bucks plus some awesome rewards tied to their winning film. They include:

  • Film played in-game at Risky Reels Title of film displayed on the marquee A poster for their film shown in game

It’s unclear how long the Risky Reels screening will last but it’s safe to assume the area will survive whatever map-changing event is set to take place at the start of Season 5. As we mentioned, the villains launched a missile into the sky last weekend and it turn through dimensional rifts before eventually disappearing. Those rifts are now growing, which suggests that something might be able to rip its way through should they get big enough.

The prevailing rumor right now is that the theme of Season 5 will be ‘50s monster movies, so a dimension-tearing event makes sense. It would also be a new theme for Fortnite to explore through skins and other cosmetics, while adding some changes to the map in the process.

As for the Blockbuster contest, this sounds a lot more unique than the Boogiedown contest and could lead to short-term immortality in the world of Fortnite.
