A couple of days ago, Epic Games and People Can Fly laid out its plans for the forthcoming content that’s set to be included in the next major map update for Fortnite’s popular and free-to-play Battle Royale mode. Now, it looks as if what the publisher and developer have colloquially dubbed “Map 2.0” will be launching Thursday, January 18, 2018 across the title’s PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.
As seen in the trailer below, Fortnite fans are going to have plenty of new spots on the island to discover such as Junk Junction and Shifty Shafts, and even refreshed biomes to appreciate, with places like Moisty Mire becoming swampier and Wailing Woods looking more woodsy. What’s more is that the 2.2.0 patch for the game mode will also add a brand new city called Tilted Towers that’s populated with buildings standing as high as six to seven stories tall.
As of late, many of Fortnite’s Battle Royale fans have been singing the praises of Epic Games and People Can Fly for not only consistently updating the free-to-play mode with engaging new content, but also due to its clear and consistent communication with players encountering issues. For instance, the developers recently rectified a bug involving Fatal Fields where players would be glitched under the map, allowing some cheaters to exploit the game by picking off unsuspecting players on the surface.
All things considered, it’s safe to say that most, if not all of Fortnite’s Battle Royale fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Update 2.2.0, but those looking for a completely new map sometime soon will be out of luck, as Epic Games has declared that it currently has no new maps planned at the moment. That said, though, that doesn’t rule out another map coming in the distant future, especially with Fortnite’s full launch on the horizon for this year.
Fortnite is available now in early access on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with the game’s full release expected at some point in 2018.
