With every new competitive season, Fortnite is known to make some pretty big changes to its battle royale mode. Thanks to a series of leaks and in-game hints, all signs point towards Chapter 2 Season 3 having an underwater theme with brand new mechanics.
These rumors first started when players discovered that the word “Noah” is spelled out using the road, a couple of bushes, and a building near Holly Hedges – easily seen from an aerial view. This is a reference to Noah’s Ark, and the first sign that Fortnite might soon find itself underwater.
Then, during the game’s Travis Scott event, Fortnite introduced an underwater swimming animation for the very first time. Players saw themselves swimming up towards a massive “Astro Jack” character, while the song “Highest In The Room” was playing. Although this animation could have been created solely for the Travis show, it seems more likely that this was a test for what might be coming down the road.
Next, we received a series of leaked promotional images that further confirm the theory. The teaser images depict Meowscles, the popular Chapter 2 Season 2 buff kitty skin, standing in some water wearing inflatable water wings, as well as a shark swimming beneath a floating house with a menacing look on its face.
Most recently, large puddles have begun to pop up across the Fortnite map, which many consider to be yet another hint towards Chapter 2 Season 3’s underwater theme. Epic Games has given players in-game hints of what’s to come before, meaning this should all but confirm what we’re going to be seeing in the game soon: a lot of water.
Finally, YouTuber, Tabor Hill, claims to have an unnamed source who informed the user that an Aquaman skin will be coming to the game along with this new theme. Considering that same source correctly informed him about Fortnite’s latest Party Royale mode, there’s a chance that he could be onto something.
Regardless, there is no way that we’ll know for sure until Fortnite’s Chapter 2 Season 3 launches on June 4. Epic Games hasn’t been shy about making big map changes in the past, and we’re sure that the developer has something big planned for the coming months.
