Before the days of the current battle royale fad, Call of Duty was known for its multiplayer. This included everything from the basic Team Deathmatch to the party-based games such as Sticks and Stones. Now it seems as if Fortnite is taking a page out of Call of Duty’s book by adding one of the most popular multiplayer modes as a Limited-Time Mode (LTM).
Before moving forward, it’s worth mentioning that this mode was datamined from Fortnite’s game files, meaning that Epic Games could decide to not release this particular LTM, yet it will be instantly recognizable if the company does. The leaked LTM is called Gun Game, with the very concept differing none (that we can tell) from the classic CoD multiplayer mode.
In this Gun Game LTM, players will need to earn eliminations to earn new weapons. It is uncertain if this would follow in a manner exactly like CoD, but it seems unlikely that this Fortnite LTM would have selectable weapon tiers like the classic. That means it is also unclear on how the weapons would cycle, whether it be certain weapons across the board or escalating weapon types (common to gold?), but it sounds like an interesting concept nevertheless.
We won’t likely know more about this particular LTM until it is added to Fortnite, but this decision seems likely to draw some criticism — despite how fun it also sounds like it could be. Whether or not it is a straight ripoff remains to be seen, but perhaps Fortnite’s approach to this mode is unique enough to stand out and not be left to the wayside.
At the end of the day, this is just a leak so nothing should be taken at absolute face value. This LTM could be nothing like we’re expecting when it releases if it ever releases at all. In the meantime, Fortnite players can be preparing for the upcoming season 8 by checking out the cracks spreading across the map.
Fortnite is out now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
