Fortnite dataminers believe they’ve discovered what skin will be involved in the game’s next crossover. While they didn’t find a sure thing, a hint in the code has them believing Lara Croft is the next character coming to Fortnite.
Crossover characters are nothing new to Fortnite. Having recently finished up a Marvel crossover that concluded with a reset after Galactus ate the world, new skins have been popping up sporadically. Those characters include bounty hunters such as The Mandalorian and God of War’s Kratos. Now it appears yet another character from another video game is coming to the world if the datamined hints are being read correctly.
A Fortnite data miner named Mang0e posted their find on Twitter over the weekend. They said a new Fortnite crossover skin is coming with the codename of “Typhoon.” Beyond the name, the data reportedly showed the new skin is a female character with reactive styles. They also found that the entrance to the map for this mystery character will be denoted with a “flicker effect.”
While the name Typhoon isn’t a dead giveaway, Dexerto reports that some Fortnite fans believe it’s a rather big hint. Those fans believe that the codename points to the opening of the 2013 reboot Tomb Raider. The opening scene has Lara stranded on an island after a violent storm sinks her ship. Other Fortnite fans hoping Lara Croft is coming point to the apparent “reactive” nature of the character’s skin. There are some who believe the more damage the character takes, the more dirt and blood shows up. This too would be an homage to the Tomb Raider reboot games that often show her battered and beaten in harsh landscapes.
A recent tweet from the official Tomb Raider account reportedly has fans of Fortnite even more fired up. That tweet showed Lara thinking about three distinct objects. One of those items is a pickaxe. The pickaxe has long been an iconic tool for Epic Games’ creation. Another of the items Lara is shown thinking about is a bow and arrow. Some believe this hints at the hunter theme that has involved quite a few of the crossover characters in the more recent season.
Epic Games hasn’t confirmed whether or not Lara Croft is coming to Fortnite just yet. Other fans of the battle royale game have long thought another much-beloved female character in intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran will arrive sooner or later. Whoever is next to hit the map should arrive soon as Season 5 is set to end on March 16.
Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
