Fortnite continues to be a dominant force for Epic Games, not only making cash hand over fist but keeping players engaged and coming back. Part of the big reason why is the constant, weekly updates with cosmetic items and fixes, as well as unique and limited time events. Still, one question that keeps getting raised by the community is whether or not a new map is ever going to be added to the popular Battle Royale mode. Thanks to a recent interview, fans now have a better indication of what Epic is planning.

When asked about the prospect of a new map, Fortnite Battle Royale design lead Eric Williamson revealed that the team has discussed this topic internally. The most recent map refresh taught the developers a great deal about the process but ultimately, adding a second map remains a low priority. While not confirming any details, Williamson did hint that multiple things were being worked that will not only evolve the current map but also help keep things feeling fresh for players.

For months, fans have speculated that something major was going to happen to the current Fortnite map once a comet appeared overhead in-game. Fans in the community continued to dig into the event and through datamining and hints provided by Epic, some truly wild theories have come out. Though many have yet to come to pass, the one aspect that links most of these rumors and theories is the idea that the comet is heading towards Tilted Towers. If it eventually does hit, the very popular location is likely going to look and feel quite different.

Fortnite’s biggest competitor, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground, has taken a completely different stance on the topic. The game that kicked off the most recent Battle Royale craze introduced a new desert map known as Miramar a few months ago to go along Erangal, which debuted with the game. Not content to stop there, Bluehole has begun to test a third map, which is set within a jungle set on an island and is a lot smaller than the other two available maps. With all these new additions, the developer is also planning on adding a map selector to the game so players who may prefer one map other the other have the option to skip it.

Fortnite is available now on iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
