Not too long ago, it was reported that the two professional video gamers Nate Hill and FunkBomb had been caught cheating during their Fall Skirmish match last week in Epic Games’ multiplayer sandbox survival shooter, Fortnite. Now, it looks as if Epic has finally decided to mete out the punishment for the offense, by issuing a ban on both of the players for the future of the Fall Skirmish event.
Although Hill will be barred from all Fall Skirmish events through October 11, he will at least remain a member of the Dusty Dogs club and will be eligible for club prizing at the end of the season at TwitchCon. FunkBomb, on the other hand, has been barred from all future Fortnite Fall Skirmish events and won’t be eligible for club prizing for Dusty Dogs. This is due to the fact that he was eliminated during a match last week and provided information gleaned from the stream back to Nate Hill. However, FunkBomb can still participate in the TwitchCon tournament at the end of next month.
For those unaware, this isn’t the first instance of Epic Games encountering cheating allegations during one of its Skirmishes for Fortnite. After the second week of the game’s Summer Skirmish in July, many were skeptical that the gameplay of iDropz_Bodies was legitimate in the $130,000 tournament, as some accused him of using a keyboard and mouse, and colluding with other players. This led to Epic investigating the situation, but the company’s findings wound up contradicting most of the accusations.
So far, this has been the first instance of Epic Games having to implement formal disciplinary measures during Fortnite’s Fall Skirmish, and one can only hope that those participating continue to play clean throughout the rest of the event. And, for the sake of Dusty Dogs as a whole, both Hill and FunkBomb’s points will thankfully still be counted towards the larger total score of the team, despite the Duo not earning any prize money during Fall Skirmish’s first week.
Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. An Android beta is currently underway.
