The release of a new Fortnite patch today also marked the official start of Fortnitemares 2018, which is a limited time event where players will encounter monsters in Battle Royale. The new mode will combine the PvE combat found in Save the World, as players must battle zombie-like creatures while also struggling to survive the threat of other players in the arena.
Fortnitemares will also introduce its own set of challenges that players must complete, unlocking a new in-game item. For every few days, Fortnite players are tasked to complete several challenges, which will grant them new rewards. After completing the final set of tasks, players will receive a Dark Engine Glider.
Although the Fortnite challenge sets will be switched up constantly, Epic revealed the first week’s challenges for Fortnitemares:
- Destroy Cube Monsters Deal damage with Assault Rifles or Pistols to Cube Monsters Visit a Corrupted Area in different matches Dance at different Gargoyles
Aside from the usual skins and the new sets of challenges included in the Halloween-themed event, Fortnite also added a couple of weapons, the Six Shooter, and the Fiend Hunter Crossbow to help players battle against the new monsters. Another addition in Battle Royale is the ability to redeploy gliders in all modes, which was announced a couple of days ago.
Epic revealed that it will be testing this new redeploy glider functionality for a limited time, to give the studio a better idea on how it will affect gameplay overall. Although it may take some time for the developer to decide whether the feature will stay or go, allowing players to redeploy their gliders in-game will undoubtedly introduce a fun new way to engage in battle in Fortnite.
Now that Fortnitemares has officially begun, it is expected that Fortnite will be loaded with players. And with new tasks to complete, fresh weapons to test out, and Cube Monsters to battle, it’s safe to presume fans both old and new will be flocking to the title during the event.
Fortnite is available now in early access for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
