Fortnite update 6.31 is now live in Epic Games’ wildly popular battle royale game, with the patch adding everything from the legendary pump shotgun to the new gifting feature. For the uninitiated, the gifting feature is something that has been long-desired by fans, so today seems like yet another step in the right direction for the battle royale game and its fan base.

To begin with, it’s worth highlighting that this is just the trial period for Fortnite’s gifting feature, so those wanting to participate and give feedback should do so by its end in a week. For those who do not want to participate, receiving gifts can be disabled in the account settings of the game. Furthermore, iOS users will not be able to participate due to Apple’s policies prohibiting such features.

How It Works

First, players will need to make sure that Multi-factor authentication is enabled. What’s more is that only those who have been friends for at least 48 hours can receive gifts in Fortnite, with players only able to gift three times in a 24-hour window. These gifts cannot be refunded, and only items currently available in the Item Shop can be gifted.

Once these prerequisites are met, Fortnite players will simply need to go to the Item Shop and attempt to purchase an item. Now, players will be presented with the options to either purchase it for themselves or to buy it as a gift. Choosing the latter will give players the screen seen further above, allowing them to choose which friend to send the gift to. Players can even add a custom message, and the receiver will get the item the next time they log in.

Hopefully, this process proves to be as simple as it sounds and as well-received by the Fortnite community. If this proves to be the case, then perhaps it will return not long after the trial period is over. In the meantime, players can be completing those season 6 week 9 challenges by hunting down the carnival clown boards.

Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
