Secret challenges are back in Fortnite Season 3, but this time around, they don’t have anything to do with warring gnomes and teddy bears.
Fortnite isn’t all about landing on an island and eliminating everyone in sight. In fact, for players who want to level up their battle pass, eliminations and Victory Royales should probably be secondary. Leveling up a Battle Pass requires boatloads of XP, and to get XP players need to complete challenges, whether they be weekly or otherwise.
Most of the challenges can be found listed in the Battle Pass hub. Some offer up a reward of 35,000 XP, others 14,000 XP, while some will unlock items. However, Chapter 2 has brought with it what players have dubbed secret challenges. They’re not listed and as was the case in Season 2, they tend to lead to a storyline of sorts playing out on the island.
Last season, that storyline told a story of an epic war between a bunch of gnomes and a group of teddy bears. That war seems to have come to an end, but the secret challenges have not. The first secret challenge of Season 3 has been discovered, and it needs to be completed on a small island in the northwest corner of the map.
On that island, players should find a tiny pen with coral creatures living inside. To complete the challenge, players will need to interact with the Coral. Before they can do that, they will need to make sure they have 100 wood. No worries if you haven’t harvested any before venturing to the far off land. Although small, there are enough trees on the island to harvest enough wood to allow players to complete the challenge.
Once players have enough wood to interact with the Coral, the challenge can be completed. The reward for doing so is 25,000 XP and the revelation that this is the Wood Age for the Coral. The assumption is that there will be at least two more secret challenges to come, one of which will require giving the Coral stone, and then metal. As for The Wood Age challenge, it can be completed in Playground mode which is preferable as players won’t need to worry about the storm closing in.
