Anyone who has wanted to float down onto Fortnite’s island with the help of a custom umbrella, Season 3 has you covered.

The theme of Fortnite Season 3 is water. There’s lots of it, and it comes with Aquaman, Loot Sharks, and a bunch of floating shacks in a POI that has been dubbed The Fortilla. Even though all of the water has already fallen, at least that’s what we’re assuming, another focal point of Season 3 is Fortnite’s Build-A-Brella.

The Build-A-Brella is a glider that is pretty plain looking right off the bat. However, players will be able to add to and customize their Brellas as the season rolls on. The Brella is basically the Maya of Season 3. For those unfamiliar with Maya, she was the character Battle Pass owners could tweak and make their own throughout Season 2.

As for the Brella, the first thing any player who wants one will need to do is buy the Battle Pass if they haven’t done so already. The Brella will be completely grey and come with no customization options at this point. Half of the customizations can be unlocked via leveling up the Battle Pass, and the other half will be unlocked via completing certain challenges. At the time of typing this, only one of those challenges has been revealed.

The first Brella challenge is to “Outlast opponents in Solos, Duos, or Squads (500)”, so something all players will eventually do without even trying. Completing this challenge will allow players to alter the color of their Brella’s topper. A new Brella challenge will be revealed every Thursday up until and including Thursday, July 23, 2020. As for the other five customization options, they can all be unlocked right now.

All of them require hitting certain Battle Pass milestones. Levels 15, 35, 55, 75, and 95. Reaching those levels will unlock the topper, shaft, canopy, bottom cap, and trail effects canopy respectively. Once every customizable element of the Build-A-Brella is unlocked, players might well have a glider that is unique to them. That’s a pretty cool item to glide down to the island with, and a feature we hope Epic continues to play with in Season 4.
